LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2006 National Showcase
Chase Kaesman is a 2007 right hand hitting catcher/1st baseman from Wilson HS, residing in Long Beach, CA. Kaesman has a thick, physically mature build on a strong 6'2" 210 lb. frame. The one tool that stands out most for Kaesman is his power. He may not be the type to hit for the highest average but he will hit some dingers at the college level. He hits with a slightly open stance and has a pull side approach, getting his hips cleared early. His swing path is sort of long and sweeping through the zone. Kaesman is no doubt strong and when on time, he can put a charge in the ball. His barrel can stay in the zone for quite awhile as well, when his swing is on time. He can also show power to the opposite field if he is late on a pitch but swings aggressively. Behind the plate Kaesman showed an arm that is approaching average. He was patient with his exchange in the catch/throw part of the showcase, taking his time and making sure he made accurate throws. Kaesman is not a quick twitch type of catcher that can explode out of the crouch and he seems to understand that. He was very good at blocking, as well as steering the ball and recovering quickly. As a receiver he is pretty good, so in all, Kaesman does many of the most important things for a catcher. He ran 5.15 home/1st with a 8.28 60. Kaesman is a college bound player and will have to really hit to earn a pro opportunity in the future. We did not see him at 1st base much, but that may be a move he makes in the near future.
