Rey Valdes is a 2007 second baseman and outfielder that attends Golden Gate High School and resides in Naples, Florida. He has a 5'5", 154 pound frame that has good strength especially in the upper half. Rey has very quick hands at the plate and stays short to the ball. He makes consistent hard contact and has a simple approach at the plate. Valdes moves very well in the infield and gets after the ball very well in the outfield. He has a quick clean release on his throws and good raw arm strength. He threw 84 mph from the outfield and 80 mph across the infield during the workout. On the mound, Rey pitches from a high 3/4 arm slot. He has a long loose arm and works very quickly while staying around the plate with all of his pitches. He is not afraid to come inside especially with his fastball at 78-81 that has good arm side run. His curveball is very solid at 72 with 11/5 rotation. Rey has the tools to be versatile all over the field and on the mound and is also a very good student.
