Armando Alvarez is a 2008 2B/SS with a 5'7'', 145 lb. frame from Miami FL, who attends Westwood Christian HS. He has a small frame and lean features but has some deceiving strength for his size that comes out when he's swinging the bat. He hits from an open stance and gets good loading action before starting his swing. Alvarez uses his hands to hit and sprays hard line drives all over the field. He pulled a few hard to show that he had a bit of pop, too. During games Alvarez showed good patience but was able to pull the trigger when he got a pitch to hit. Alvarez ran the 60 in 7.75 and threw 75 mph during infield drills. He showed quick, sure hands at second base and was especially quick turning the double play. He hung in at second very well for a young player his size. His arm strength is solid for second base and he has quick feet to get into position. Alvarez does need to get stronger and fill out some, but he's a good athlete with some baseball skills. He is also a very good student.
