Christopher Vopinek is a 2008 RHP with a 6'3'', 180 lb. frame from Bellflower CA, who attends Bellflower HS. He has a long, lanky, highly projectable body. Vopinek sure looked like a top prospect, but the velocity just was not there in comparison to some others at the event. No worries here though. He will be 90+ in no-time, likely this coming summer at some point. Vopinek has a long, loose, quick arm with a rhythmic delivery. He has good mound presence and showed that he has feel of the baseball. He gets out to good frontside extensinon which certainly aids in his feel and the action he gets on his pitches, particulalry the change-up. Vopinek's fastball (84-87) has downward life and at times hard sink. He throws his change-up with plus plus hand speed and has plus feel of it. It is the type of change-up (72-73 mph) that gets hitters to swing at the arm action and the ball just never seeems to get there. He also has a low-70s downer curveball. Vopinek is a ground ball/sinker baller who projects pretty largely. He is also a good student.
