2003 Sunshine West Showcase
Thompson is a hard hitting catcher that can play several positions. He can run well for the catcher position, has quick defensive actions and can swing the wood. His pop times were all close to 2 seconds and we registered a low time of 2.05 on him. His arm strength was just 69 mph, but his quick feet and good release compensated for that. He showed versatility as an infielder also and might even play well as a second baseman down the road. His biggest asset was the bat. He swung well in BP driving a couple deep on the track. He has a strong lower half and used a short-to-the-ball swing that we liked. He put a few balls in play hard from gap to gap and we think he will keep up that trend in College. Good student.
