Christopher Woollen is a 2005 LHP from Southlake Carroll HS in Texas. He is a strong 6'2" left hander from who showed good tools both on the mound and in the field. Although he is a primary pitcher, his position tools were better than many of the position prospects in Ft Myers and worth a good look by college recruiters. Woollen is a 7.2 or better runner with 85 mph arm strength from the outfield. He’s also a switch-hitter, a rarity for a left handed thrower, and generates some good bat speed from both sides of the plate. He grades out better from the right side at this point. On the mound, Woolen didn’t match his outfield arm strength but threw solidly in the upper 70’s. He has a lot of effort in his delivery and throws from a forced high release point with upper body tilt on release. Woollen would undoubtedly throw harder with calmer and more linear pitching mechanics and he seems like a very good athlete who can make some adjustments. Christopher is a very good student.
