Scott Emery is a 2007 RHP/1B with a 6'3'', 212 lb. frame from Lafayette CA, who attends Acalanes HS. Emery has a strong, broad, power pitcher type body. He pitches from an over the top slot and shows pretty good arm speed, particularly from the apex of his arm stroke through release of the ball. He has a pretty loose arm but gets to some deep backside extension that takes away from some momentum his arm could gain. The longer he stays over the rubbber, the more effective and powerful his stuff will be. Emery had good results. He induced a lot of week contact with a fastball that rode quite a bit on hitters' hands. The hitters just seemed to react very late and poorly to his fastball, which topped at 85 and sat in the 82-84 range. Emery also has a good curveball. He spins it well and at times there was some bite on it. It is a developing pitch and the closer he can get it to the mid-70s, the better it will be. Staying over the rubber longer will also help his curveball. Emery is a top end student and has stuff that should keep coming on as he gets more consistent with his mechanics.
