2006 Nor Cal Underclass Showcase
Matt Ross is a 2009 SS/IF with a 6'0'', 175 lb. frame from Auburn CA, who attends Placer HS. He has a strong build on an athletic looking frame and should be able to carry additional strength and size as he gets older. Listed as a primary shortstop, Ross showed all around ability that suggests he will develop into a fine college caliber 3rd baseman. His present day strength showed during BP as he was making loud barrel contact. He has a pretty flat swing plane and good bat speed. In time his power should develop nicely; more of the carry type of power rather than loft power. He played well devensively at 2nd base and showed his versatility by handling all the infield positions well. His throws stay on-line, another trait that suggest 3rd base in the future. He also made a very nice play near the fence. Ross is also a ver strong student.
