2005 Sunshine West Showcase
Dan Pellegrino is a 2007 C/1B from Poway HS in Poway, CA, with a 5'11", 170 lb. frame. Defensively he did a very good job behind the plate. Pellegrino showed good foot speed and lateral movement blocking balls in the dirt. He has accurate throws and pop times, but he really did a good job receiving behind the plate and worked very well with the pitchers. The pop times could improve immediately with a quicker transfer and release. At the plate he has quiet hands with a line drive swing path. Pellegrino uses a short stride and has solid bat speed with some present strength in his swing. He also has smooth running mechanics and has better game quickness than his sixty time might suggest. Pellegrino's strength is currently behind the plate, but has the tools to be a good hitter as well. He is also an excellent student.
