Fleckenstein is an 8th grade catcher from Iowa with very good present strength and skills for his age. He was the youngest player at the showcase by a large margin but was not out of place. We understand that Fleckenstein’s family is moving to Colorado this summer and some high school coach is going to be happy to have him. His best tool right now is his bat and Fleckenstein must do some serious damage against age group pitching with a metal bat. He has a good load at the plate with good flow and momentum through the ball. Fleckenstein tends to muscle up a bit trying to hit with power, which leads to his baring his arm and letting his swing get long, but it didn’t keep him from making solid contact. Defensively, Fleckenstein shows nice arm strength for his age at 70 mph and a best pop time of 2.23. He’s understandably on the raw side with his fundamentals but has lots of time to work on those. He should be a fun player to watch develop over the next few years.

Tommy Fleckenstein is a 2009 catcher/right handed pitcher from Anamosa, Iowa, with a strong 5'11", 170 lb. frame. Fleckenstein is a very advanced hitter with well above average bat speed for his age. He likes the ball on the inner half and sometimes rolls over pitches on the outer third. Once Fleckenstein learns to be patient, and what balls to turn on and what balls to drive the other way, he is going to be an impressive hitter. He shows present raw power that is well above his age level. He also has a strong arm behind the plate with good quickness on his throws to second base. Fleckenstein pitches from a 3/4 arm slot with good arm action. He stays around the zone with a 78 mph fastball with some sink at times. Fleckenstein has a balanced delivery and uses his legs well. He also mixes in an 11 to 5 curveball at 65 mph. Fleckenstein has the chance to be a power hitting catcher, which is always in demand. He is a must follow.
