Hess' raw stuff has taken a huge step forward over the last year as his fastball has gone from the mid- to upper-80s to topping out at 95-96 mph this summer with lots of running and sinking life. The 6-foot-6 righthander throws from a high energy delivery and a three-quarters arm slot that creates big angle to the plate. Throw in Hess's deep sweeping low-80s slider and you have a very uncomfortable at-bat for righthanded hitters in particular, and all hitters in general.
