2014 Summer Collegiate top prospect index
WestCoast League top prospect list
The
West Coast Collegiate League is one of the more intriguing leagues
for a variety of reasons, including its proximity and swath of
locations, as well as the number of teams – 12.
The
Bellingham Bells put together quite the summer at the WCL, tallying a
fantastic 37-17 overall record in the regular season, while also
claiming the overall crown by taking care of business in the
postseason.
In
terms of individual accolades, UC Riverside outfielder Vince
Fernandez was just terrific across the board, leading to the league
in numerous offensive categories to earn Player of the Year honors,
while Arizona State righthanded pitcher Seth Martinez had a
consistently dominant summer and earned Pitcher of the Year
accolades.

TOP
10 PROSPECTS
1.Vince
Fernandez, of, Yakima Valley Pippins (UC Riverside/SO in 2016)
Fernandez
had limited action in his first season with the Highlanders, but he
put together a summer that should serve as a massive springboard
heading into the 2015 campaign. Fernandez, a very athletic 6-foot-4,
205-pound outfielder, hit .359 with 13 doubles, three triples, 10
home runs and 51 RBI. He also induced 31 walks and swiped 11 bases.
Fernandez projects as a corner outfielder at the next level and has a
huge overall upside. His speed is good, but not great, but he still
has the ability to play all three positions in the outfield, while he
has good power, physicality, and a mature offensive approach.
Fernandez has some pull-side pop at the plate, while defensively he
has an average to above-average arm.
