11u Championship Recap: Day 3

The stakes were high on day three of the PG Super25 11u National Championship at the East Cobb Baseball Complex in Marietta, Georgia. It was a make-or-break day for many teams as only four teams from each pool would advance to the round of eight. Here’s a brief synopsis of the action from day three:

Titans Baseball Blue rocked the Columbus Sharks 10-1 in a short five inning contest. Cade Thompson and the Titans’ offense tallied eight runs in the opening three innings. Thompson notched a game-high four RBIs with a double and a pair of singles.

The BC Phenom proved to be a more difficult opponent for the Titans. The two teams were neck and neck through the first three innings, but the Phenom would pull away with eight runs in the final two. Liam Lombardi had a phenomenal day at the plate as he finished 4-4 from the plate with two home runs in the Phenom’s 13-8 victory.

The Midland Warriors never recovered after allowing five runs to the Mizuno TGBA Aces in the top of the third inning. Mizuno’s Jordan Vance contributed two RBIs on a 2-3 game from the dish. The Warriors were held scoreless in the final two innings of their 6-4 defeat.

Tysen Benford had a solid outing on both sides of the ball during the East Cobb Astros' 11-0 shutout of the Dallas Tigers-Polk. Benford allowed two hits in a complete game shutout. He contributed on offense as well with three RBIs, two of which came by way of a fifth inning home run.

The Astros kept pace with the potent offense of Vipers Baseball, but they ultimately fell short. Lorenzo Carrier did the heavy lifting for the Vipers with a single in the first inning and a grand slam in the third. Carrier finished with four RBIs as the Vipers topped the Astros 8-7.

The Dallas Tigers-Polk gave the Vipers a run for their money, but the Vipers survived the 5-4 nail-biter. Drue Saenz belted a two-run dinger to jolt the Tigers’ offense in the second inning, but they would never take the lead from the Vipers.

Despite minuscule run support, Trevor Horne got the job done from the mound in Chatt Valley’s 2-1 win over the Mizuno TGBA Aces. Horne fanned six batters in a complete game three-hitter. Chatt Valley walked-off in the bottom of the sixth courtesy of Luke Norman’s single to the center field gap.

The Banditos' comeback bid from a five-run deficit nearly came to fruition, but ProScouting Elite MVP would hang on. Yoel Tejada led ProScouting’s offense with a two-run bomb in the first inning and an RBI single in the third. With two outs and the tying run 70 feet away from home plate, ProScouting Elite MVP forced a ground-out to secure the 9-8 victory.

With back-to-back match-ups against the Dallas Texans and ProScouting Elite MVP, the East Cobb Braves had their work cut out for them. They kept up with the Texans until the fifth inning, but a late two-run double by Adam Eschler would lift the Texans over the Braves 6-4. The Braves held a two-run advantage early on in their second contest against ProScouting Elite MVP, however, the game was postponed until tomorrow due to thunderstorms.

Georgia Super Qualifiers Claimed
The East Cobb Astros and the Georgia Bombers (Hill) were able to emerge as the champions on Sunday at the 2018 PG Super25 13u and 14u Georgia Super Qualifiers.
