Texas Collegiate League Top Prospect List (20)

The Texas Collegiate League has been around since 2004 and continues to be a good breeding ground for prospects in the Texas and Louisiana regions. The Brazos Valley Bombers dominated the league yet again in 2015, finishing the regular season with a 42-9 overall record and breezing through the playoffs for their third consecutive title.

Their league dominance led to them once again being considered for Summer Collegiate Team of the Year honors, an award they claimed just two years ago in 2013.

Brazos Valley’s Geonte Jackson led the league in batting average and on-base percentage and the University of Texas-San Antonio product also earned Player of the Year honors. Acadiana’s Daniel Martinez had a very strong summer and led the league in wins, ERA and strikeouts en route to being named Pitcher of the Year.

TOP 10 PROSPECTS

1. Tyler Stubblefield, lhp, Brazos Valley (Texas A&M/JR in 2016)
Stubblefield was expected to be a key member of the Texas A&M rotation this past spring, but the southpaw missed nearly the entire 2015 season due to an ACL injury. Despite the injury and ensuing missed development time on the mound, Stubblefield still received significant interest from professional teams during the draft. Nevertheless, he’ll return to College Station this season and figures to slot back into the starting rotation. The 6-foot-5, 215-pound southpaw only started two games, but struck out 12 and allowed just three hits and one run in his 11 innings of work. He has a fastball in the 88-90 mph range with an ability to touch higher when he’s 100 percent, but his command of the offering really stands out. Stubblefield also showed very solid feel for his changeup and slider this summer. As he continues to get back to full strength Stubblefield should have a good chance to get drafted in the first few rounds of the 2016 draft, and certainly much earlier than he did out of high school when he was selected in the 36th round by the Atlanta Braves.
