FIU Slugger Tyler Townsend Emerges as High Pick

BOCA RATON, FL- The college crop is comparatively weak in Florida this year, but there have been a handful of players from smaller D1 and D2 schools who have emerged as prospects.  Florida International University has one such late riser in Tyler Townsend, their starting rightfielder whose powerful lefthanded bat has drawn the attention of national-level scouts and will likely put him in the first three rounds.

I drove to Florida Atlantic to watch FAU host their Sun Belt Conference rivals for the final game of the season on Saturday (May 16th, 2009).  FIU had already clinched a spot in the tournament, but FAU was hoping to salvage their chances with a win.
