It’s Another New PG Record Draft Total

The number of draft picks that have attended Perfect Game events has increased each of the past 15 years. We thought that last year’s total would never be surpassed. 1,164 players who had played in PG events were drafted by Major League organizations in the 2008 draft.

After the first two days (30 rounds) this year, it became clear that the record could possibly be broken again when 715 of the first 921 picks (first 30 rounds) had played in PG events. Now after closely matching players to our database the results show a new record. 1,191 players who had been to PG events were selected in the 2009 draft. This accounted for 78.3% of the entire draft. The 78.3% also broke last year’s record of 77.4% of all players selected in the entire draft.

Below are some interesting statistics starting with the 2000 draft
