PG National Championship Starts Thursday in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. – The inaugural Perfect Game National Championship Upperclass and Underclass tournaments will be held during a five-day span (Sept. 24-28) at the Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, a 158-acre facility that features 13 regulation-size diamonds and serves as the spring training home of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The two tournaments will be held simultaneously at the complex, with 26 teams competing in the Upperclass Tournament and 16 teams in the Underclass Tournament. The Upperclass Tournament is geared for 2010 high school graduates and younger, while the Underclass Tournament is for 2011 high school grads and younger.

The Upperclass Tournament begins Thursday night (Sept. 24) with a game featuring the ABD Bulldogs against the Arlington A’s at Tucson Electric Park, which is the main stadium at the complex and can hold 11,000 fans. The Diamondbacks play their spring training games at Tucson Electric Park. The Underclass Tournament is set to begin Friday morning (Sept. 25) at the complex.

The Upperclass Tournament features 14 teams from California, four from Arizona, four from Texas, two from Florida, one from New Mexico and one from New Jersey. The 26 teams have been assigned to six pools, with everyone playing three pool games. The top 16 teams will advance to the playoffs, which start Sunday. The semifinals and finals will be played on Monday.

The Underclass Tournament features nine teams from California, four from Arizona and one apiece from Hawaii, Utah and Illinois. Those 16 teams have been assigned to four pools, with the top eight teams advancing to the quarterfinals on Sunday. The championship game is set for Monday morning.

The Kino Sports Complex, located in Pima County, opened in 1998 and offers a majestic view of the Santa Catalina Mountains.
