East Cobb Astros win 17U BCS Finals

With East Cobb trailing by a score of 2-1 in the bottom of the 6th inning, Alexander
Cruz (2010, Blessed Trinity HS, GA) hit a go-ahead 2-run home run to give the Astros
the lead for good, as they defeated the All American Prospects by a score of 4-2 to
win the 17U BCS Championship.

Dwight Smith (2011, McIntosh HS, GA) got East Cobb on the board in the 1st inning with
a solo home run over the rightfield wall. Both teams would go silent until the top of
the 4th inning when Alex Hernandez (2010, Palm Beach Central HS, Fla) singled and
scored on a pass ball to tie the score at 1.

The Prospects would take a 2-1 lead into the top of the 5th inning when Mike Carballo
(2010, Archbishop McCa HS, Fla) singled, stole 2nd and 3rd base before scoring on
another pass ball.  But, in the bottom of the 6th, the Prospects walked the tying run
aboard for Alexander Cruz, who came up and hit a fastball over the leftfield fence to
give East Cobb a 3-2 lead. The Astros would add another run in the 6th to win the 17U
BCS Championship by a score of 4-2.

The tournaments Most Valuable Pitcher, John Magliozzi (2011, Dexter HS, MA) got the
win for the Astros throwing 5 innings, while scattering 5 hits and 2 runs. Magliozzi
didn't allow an earned run or a walk as he struckout 4 batter. Kyle Davis took the
lose for the Prospects, throwing 3 inning, allowing 1 run on 2 hits, while striking
out 3.

Kaleb Cowart (2010, Cook County HS, GA) was named the tournaments MVP. Cowart earned
the win in the semifinal game throwing all 5 innings and allowed just 2 runs on 3
hits. Cowart also struckout 6 batters, while walking 2. At the plate Cowart went 12-
for-24, drove in 7 runs while scoring 5. He also added 3 doubles, a triple and a home
run.
