Dallas Yankees claim 16U BCS Finals!

The Dallas Yankees defeated Marucci's Elite by a score of 11-3 in 6 innings to claim the 16U BCS National Championship. The Yankees got a strong start from Billy Waltrip (2010, Ft. Gibson HS, OK) and scored 5 runs in the 4th inning on thier way to the win.

Waltrip worked all 6 innings for the Yankees and gave up one earned run while scattering 5 hits. He also added 6 strikeouts and issued 3 walks. Tournament MVP Matt Dean (2011, The Colony HS, TX) led the way for the Yankees going 2-for-4 with a double, four RBI's, and a run scored.

Marucci's jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning when Jacob Knox (2011, Catholic HS, LA) doubled in two runs with two outs. But, the Yankees would quickly answer in the bottom of the frame when Mark McCants (2011, Flower Mound HS, TX) grounded out to first base to plate the run. Two batters later Sklyer Ewing (2011, Arlington HS, TX) lined a single into right to tie the score at 2-2.

The Yankees would pull away in the bottom of the 4th inning when they rallied to score five runs. Dean would plate two runs with single, followed by a bases loaded walk by Michael Gill (2011, Flower Mound HS, TX). Dean would strike again in the bottom of the 5th to seal the deal for Dallas when he doubled in two runs, making the score 9-3. The Yankees would tack on a couple more to win by a score of 11-3 in 6 innings.

The Most Valuable Pitcher of the tournament was Michael Gill. Gill got two wins today as he worked both the 2nd round and semifinal games that led the Yankees to the championship. For the tournament, Gill went 3-0 as he worked 13 2/3 innings and gave up just one earned run and 6 hits. He also added 17 strikeouts while walking just two batters.

The MVP of the tournament was Matt Dean who capped a stellar tournament by going 2-for-4 with a double, four RBI's, a walk, and a run scored.
