Nevada State Playoff Update

Todd Gold      Ben Collman
PG High School takes a look at the early results and previews the upcoming matchups in the Nevada state playoffs for each class.

Class 4A
Five time defending champion Bishop Gorman has been on fire the past couple of months and they've carried their momentum over into the playoffs by winning their opener against Green Valley 9-7. The Gaels will take on Rancho for a berth in the state championship after Rancho pulled out a tough 3-2 win over Spanish Springs in their opener. There is a lot of talent in this bracket but Gorman looks to be the favorite yet again thanks in large part to the prolific power of 3B Joey Gallo, who broke the state's single season Home Run record as a Junior this year with 23.

Class 3A
Boulder City couldn't have had a more positive start to their playoff run, blowing out Truckee 20-3 in the opener. The Eagles will face Churchill County who scratched out a 1-0 win over Lowry. After getting off to a slow start this season Boulder City won their final nine games heading into the state playoffs.

Class 2A
Whittell took care of Needles 7-2 in the opener to earn an opportunity to avenge their loss to Yerington in the North Regional Finals. Yerington held off The Meadows 6-4 and are now one game away from a berth in the championship.

Class 1A
Pahranagat Valley crushed Carlin 11-1 in 5 innings to advance to take on Beatty for the second time in a week. Beatty is coming off a 12-8 win over North Regional Champion Mineral County. Pahrnagat Valley looks like a heavy favorite in this bracket, having gone 23-3 in the regular season and beating Beatty four times already this season.
