April 3 National Rankings

Todd Gold      Ben Collman

There are a myriad changes to this week’s National Rankings as the National High School Invitational gave us a good look at many of the top teams in the country. A PG High School record 13 new teams enter the rankings, and overall there was a lot of movement throughout the country.

Mater Dei makes an 18-spot jump to the top spot with a dominant performance at the NHSI, with a fellow So Cal team, Harvard-Westlake, making its own big jump to No. 2.

Four Florida teams are in the Top 10 as Tampa Jesuit sits at No. 3 followed by No. 4 Olympia, No. 5 Columbus and No. 6 American Heritage.  A new Florida team enters the ranks as Westminster Christian is in at No. 34.

Bingham (UT) makes their case for the best team in the state of Utah, rebounding from an opening day loss and making a statement by knocking off then No. 5 Spanish Fork. The Miners climb into the rankings at No. 38.

St. Francis (CA) stayed undefeated, improving to 14-0-1 on the year with an impressive 1-0 victory over San Jose Valley Christian this week, and the top ranked team from Northern California climbs to No. 16. Campolindo is not far behind after a strong start to the Anaheim Lions tournament that included an impressive win over nationally ranked El Toro (CA) yesterday.  Campo climbs to No. 27.

The Redlands (CA) enters the national top 50 this week after knocking off rival Redlands East Valley and their ace, Jackson McClelland. Redlands debuts at No. 37 thanks to a 14-1 start to the season.

Other new teams include No. 21 Orange Lutheran (CA), No. 33 El Capitan (CA), No. 40 Woodward Academy (GA), No. 41 Newbury Park (CA), No. 42 Lexington (SC), No. 45 Western Branch (VA), No. 46 Mount Carmel (IL), No. 47 Conestoga (PA), No. 48 Broken Arrow (OK), and No. 49 Strongsville (OH).
