The biggest story around the nation this week came from Round Rock, TX where the Texas 4A and 5A state champions were crowned.

No. 13 Rockwall-Heath captured the 4A title by blasting Cleburne 10-1 in the title game. The Hawks reached the finals thanks to a complete game by RHP/1B Jake Thompson, three days after being selected in the second round of the 2012 MLB Draft by the Detroit Tigers.

No. 22 Cypress Ranch claimed the 5A state title, becoming the second consecutive team from Region 3 (Houston) to win the 5A title. CyRanch won 17 consecutive games, including a perfect 11-0 run through the playoffs.

Lake Braddock (VA) is up to No. 24 after capturing the Virginia AAA title. They had a tough route, first beating Cosby before taking down Hylton and then Kellam 4-0 to win the title. Illinois also crowned their champions last week as Oak Park River Forest scored a run to beat previous N0. 49 Lyons to win the AAAA Illinois crown.

The battle for New York City was a hotly contest one all year. The season ended Saturday as No. 47 Grand Street Campus won their first city title, beating pre-season favorite and powerhouse George Washington 2-1 as Gerry Gonzalez shut down GW in the title game.

The only team in the rankings still playing is No. 27 Lake Central (IN). They sit at 31-1 after a 9 inning 4-3 win over Zionsville to earn a berth in the title game. They take on Roncalli Saturday night at Victory Field in downtown Indianapolis.
