It’s often said that one of the issues that baseball faces looking into the future is that so many of the best young athletes, and especially the best young African-American athletes, choose to play other sports, in particular football. Louisiana native Justin Williams, currently ranked fourth in the Perfect Game 2013 class rankings, doesn’t fit into that mold.

Williams is perhaps the most physically impressive of the top 2013 prospects. He has a chiseled 6-foot-3, 215-pound build and was nationally ranked by football recruiting services as a wide receiver until he gave up football after his junior year to concentrate on baseball. It’s easy to see Williams as a dynamic strong safety or outside linebacker on the football field at the next level, but thankfully for baseball that won’t happen.
