College Top 25: In a good State

If there was any doubt about North Carolina being the nation's top-ranked team at this point in the season, the Tar Heels silenced those doubters this past weekend with their outstanding play at the Astros Foundation Classic.

The Tar Heels had a perfect 3-0 weekend with wins over Rice, Texas A&M and California, and as a result, remain the No. 1 team in the land in the Perfect Game College Top 25.

Though there was no movement at the top spot, there was plenty of movement elsewhere in the rankings, with the new top five consisting of the Tar Heels, Vanderbilt, LSU, UCLA and Stanford, with Arkansas falling from No. 2 to No. 16 after a winless trip to Arizona.

Meanwhile, on the positive side, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State and Cal State Fullerton each made notable leaps this week. The Yellow Jackets climbed two spots from No. 11 to No. 9 after yet another dominant weekend, while the Bulldogs improved from No. 16 to No. 10 after a ridiculously hot 15-0 start. Cal State Fullerton won yet another impressive series, this time over Oregon, and moves from No. 18 to No. 11.

Also keep a very close eye on Arizona State. The Sun Devils caught attention two weekends ago with a road series win over Tennessee, and vaulted from No. 25 to No. 19 after a fantastic weekend at the Coca-Cola Classic in Surprise, Ariz.

Elsewhere in this week's ranking, Texas (22) and Southern Mississippi (24) dropped out of the rankings after losing important series over the weekend, while Virginia and Virginia Tech, both off to terrific starts, entered the rankings at No's 24 and 25, respectively.
