It’s official now. After months of speculation in the baseball community and a process that according to Drew Ward’s father, Greg, started in January of 2012, Ward will become officially eligible to be selected in the 2013 MLB Draft in June once he graduates from Leedey (Okla.) High School. Graduation day is May 17.

The actual act of graduation is the most important part of the process. If Ward were to not graduate for some reason, according to the letter the Ward’s received from Major League Baseball, he would still have athletic eligibility at the school and thus would not be eligible until that eligibility expired in 2014.
