Before October 26, 2012, there were a handful of people in the national scouting community who had heard of right handed pitcher Carlos Salazar from Kerman, Calif., a small Central Valley farming community about 15 miles west of Fresno. There were far fewer who had actually seen him pitch.

Salazar was born in Sinaloa Provence in Mexico and immigrated to the United States with his mother when he was five years old. According to the 2010 U.S. Census figures as listed on Wikipedia, 71.7 percent of Kerman’s approximate 13,000 residents are of Hispanic/Latino origin. If there was ever a good place to hide out as a prospect, Kerman seems like a prime candidate.
