Astin looks elite vs. Ole Miss

Kendall Rogers

HOOVER, Ala. -- Arkansas junior right-handed pitcher Barrett Astin apparently is saving his best for last.

The talented righty put together one of his most impressive starts of the season Wednesday afternoon as the Razorbacks captured a 2-1 win over Mississippi to advance to the winner's bracket of the SEC tournament, now setting up a dream matchup between Razorbacks ace Ryne Stanek and LSU ace Aaron Nola.

Astin turned the tables on the Rebels in the rematch. In his last performance against this Ole Miss club way back in March, he allowed a run on four hits in 2 2/3 innings of work. Certainly not a bad showing, but not quite as dominant as he was today.

"We've seen him so long now, we'll be happy when he leaves," Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco said about Astin. "He's a good one, he's a warrior out there. With that fastball, slider and now that two-seam fastball, he's just the complete package for those guys. Astin might not strike out a ton of guys, but he's very difficult to barrel up."
