Every year we hear about certain draft prospects that are “enigmatic” for one reason or another. Despite whatever those question marks or deficiencies are, however, the players with that label still manage to be drafted at least fairly high because of their skill-set. Last year, there was Deven Marrero, who suffered through a trying season offensively and even defensively. The Red Sox still took him in the first round. And, then there was Victor Roache, who essentially missed the entire spring, but was still taken by the Milwaukee Brewers 28th overall. This year, that player that prognosticators have a hard time placing in the draft shuffle is Stanford right-hander, A.J. Vanegas.
