Breaking down the hosts

Kendall Rogers

With conference tournaments coming to a close, the Road to Omaha has officially begun with the NCAA's announcement of the 16 NCAA Regional host sites.

The full field as well as the eight national seeds will be announced Monday at 11 a.m., central. Super Regional pairings will also be announced Monday.

NCAA Regional hosts are listed in alphabetical order.

NCAA Regional hosts
Host Site Record Berth Last NCAA appearance
Cal State Fullerton Goodwin Field in Fullerton, Calif. 48-8 35th 2012 (Eugene Regional)
The Titans are a balanced and fun team to watch. They have two of the elite right-handed pitchers in the country in Justin Garza and Thomas Eshelman, while two-way star Michael Lorenzen is an exceptional overall player.
Florida State Dick Howser Stadium in Tallahassee, Fla. 44-15 51st 2012 (College World Series)
The Seminoles might not be known for their pitching, but they have a very solid weekend rotation these days with Brandon Leibrandt, Scott Sitz and Luke Weaver leading the charge. As usual, the Seminoles also have a productive offense that can give teams a lot of trouble.
Indiana Bart Kauman Field in Bloomington, Ind. 42-14 TBA 2009 (Louisville Regional)
The Hoosiers are a very balanced club, too, with Kyle Schwarber, Sam Travis, Scott Donley, Dustin DeMuth and others leading the offense, while Aaron Slegers is having a sensational campaign on the mound. Indiana definitely has a chance to reach the College World Series.
Kansas State Tointon Family Stadium in Manhattan, Kan. 41-17 4th 2011 (Fullerton Regional)
To absolutely no surprise, coach Brad Hill and his staff have done yet another terrific job. The Wildcats possess one of the nation's elite offenses with Jared King and others leading the charge, while the pitching staff is more than serviceable.
Louisiana State Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge, La. 52-9 26th 2012 (Baton Rouge Super Regional)
The Tigers have shown championship qualities throughout the 2013 season. LSU has a stout weekend rotation with Ryan Eades and Aaron Nola leading the charge, while at the plate, Alex Bregman and Mason Katz are as good as it gets. LSU hopes to avenge last year's NCAA Super Regional loss to Stony Brook.
Louisville Jim Patterson Stadium in Louisville, Ky. 46-12 7th 2012 (Tucson Regional)
Sure, the Cardinals didn't exactly perform well in the Big East tournament, but this is a very solid club with a world of potential. The Cardinals have a solid weekend rotation with Chad Green and Jeff Thompson leading the charge, while fireballer Nick Burdi is a big-time arm on the back-end of the bullpen.
Mississippi State Dudy Noble Field at Polk-Dement Stadium in Starkville, Miss. 43-17 31st 2012 (Tallahassee Regional)
The Bulldogs are playing a very solid brand of baseball at exactly the right time. Shortstop Adam Frazier and outfielder Hunter Renfroe are ultra exciting players to watch, while on the mound, the Bulldogs are almost unbeatable late in games with husky, hard-throwing closer Jonathan Holder leading the charge.
North Carolina Boshamer Stadium in Chapel Hill, N.C. 52-8 28th 2012 (Chapel Hill Regional)
The Tar Heels are one of the nation's elite teams for a reason. Colin Moran is one of the nation's premier hitters in charge of the UNC offensive lineup, while on the mound, the Heels are incredibly deep and have an elite front-line arm in left-handed pitcher Kent Emanuel.
North Carolina State Doak Field in Raleigh, N.C. 44-14 26th 2012 (Gainesville Super Regional)
The Wolfpack may not have a pitching staff as deep in premier talent as some others, but they have left-handed pitcher Carlos Rodon, along with a talented offense, including outstanding shortstop Trea Turner, among others.
Oregon P.K. Park in Eugene, Ore. 45-14 5th 2012 (Eugene Super Regional)
If the Ducks can get some offensive production beyond Ryon Healy and a couple of others in the postseason, watch out. UO has an outstanding pitching staff with left-handed pitchers Tommy Thorpe and Cole Irvin, and righty Jimmie Sherfy leading the charge.
Oregon State Goss Stadium in Corvallis, Ore. 45-10 14th 2012 (Baton Rouge Regional)
The Beavers have quietly been one of the nation's elite teams this spring. Though the offense is solid with outfielder Michael Conforto and others leading the charge, the pitching staff has been phenomenal with Matt Boyd, Andrew Moore and Ben Wetzler leading the way.
South Carolina Carolina Stadium in Columbia, S.C. 39-18 29th 2012 (College World Series title series)
The Gamecocks didn't have a good showing in the SEC tournament, but still have an elite club with a solid pitching staff leading the way. The big key for the Gamecocks in the postseason will be getting more offensive production. That's where guys like LB Dantzler and Grayson greiner enter the equation.
UCLA Jackie Robinson Stadium in Los Angeles 39-17 19th 2012 (College World Series)
It's safe to say the Bruins aren't electric offensively, but you certainly could call them opportunistic. With that said, the Bruins' bread is buttered on the mound, where Adam Plutko, Nick Vander Tuig and Grant Watson formulate a very solid starting rotation.
Vanderbilt Hawkins Field in Nashville, Tenn. 51-9 12th 2012 (Raleigh Regional)
The Commodores are an incredibly balanced club. From starting pitchers Kevin Ziomek and Tyler Beede to an electric lineup led by second baseman Tony Kemp, the Commodores are a very complete club and should compete for the national title.
Virginia Davenport Field in Charlottesville, Va. 47-10 13th 2012 (Charlottesville Regional)
In one of the great stories of the season, the Cavaliers are on a roll and have an extremely potent offensive lineup with Mike Papi leading the charge. The pitching staff won't overpower you most of the time, but is consistently solid.
Virginia Tech English Field in Blacksburg, Va. 38-19 10th 2010 (Columbia Regional)
If the Hokies pitch in the NCAA postseason like they did in the ACC tournament, watch out for these guys in the postseason. The Hokies already have a big-time offensive lineup with Tyler Horan, Chad Pinder, Andrew Rash and others leading the charge. Tech could just be one of those College World Series sleepers.
