2014 West Coast Top & Underclass

7- Orange vs 8- Purple Highlights
8/17/2014 1:50:11 AM
2015 OF Charles Grant-DeBose (Torrance, CA) made not only the highlight play of the day defensively when he robbed extra bases with a diving catch at full extension, but he followed it up in the bottom half of of the inning with a triple to left center. He also proved that neither end of that impressive inning was a fluke by picking up another hit in a 2-for-3 effort with two runs and covered a ton of ground in CF all game and made several tough plays look easy.

2015 MIF/RHP Tim Nelson (Chino Hills, CA) opened eyes on the mound with the tremendous movement he was able to impart on the baseball. He lived at 87 and topped out at 88 with his fastball, but more impressively it featured hard late short running action to the arm side. He backed it up with a 12-6 curveball that flashed bite at it's best in the low 70s and an upper 70s splitter which was a filthy offering. He struck out all six of the batters he faced.

2015 LHP Chris Davidson (La Canada, CA) showed good potential, with a clean arm action and a fastball that topped out at 84 mph, and he paired it with a deep breaking curve in the low 70s.

2015 MIF/OF Brooks Stolter (Vista, CA) showed off impressive speed, getting down the line in 4.19 seconds on a ground ball that he nearly beat out for an infield single in his first at-bat. He posted a nearly identical time down the line the second time up when he successfully legged out an infield hit.

2017 IF Jayson Gonzalez (Azusa, CA) made a highly impressive play coming in from third base. He has a big barrel chested frame, which would suggest that he's a below average athlete. As such, a runner attempted to drop down a bunt for a hit down the third base line with Gonzalez at third. He charged hard and came in to make a beautiful barehanded scoop and throw in one motion to nail the speedy runner. He also showed impressive ability with the bat in spite of an 0-for-2 showing, crushing a well struck at'em ball to center field.

2015 OF Ryan Eastburn (Harbor City, CA) went 2-for-3 with a couple hard hit balls, including one that came off the bat at 93 mph.

2015 MIF Derek Reilly (Anaheim, CA) went 0-for in the boxscore, but his double digit pitch battle made a big impression on the scouts in attendance. He took a fastball off his hand during the middle of the battle and didn't let the pain affect his ability to spoil quality offerings and stay alive. He eventually flew out with a loud fly ball (5.40 hangtime).

2015 MIF Dickie Brown (Long Beach, CA) went 2-for-3 with a double, a run and a stolen base.

2015 RHP Matt Young (Corona, CA) struck out eight over four shutout innings while allowing just two hits in his start for the Orange team. He topped out at 84 and showed a sharp 75 mph slider that he used as his out pitch.
