Columbia Blue v. Gold Highlights
6/14/2015 4:13:22 PM

Carson Rudd (2017 RHP, Agoura, CA) threw two scoreless innings for the Columbia Blue team. The projectable right handed pitcher has an easy, repeatable delivery and he stays balanced well. He showed an advanced feel for pitching, pounding the strike zone with his 82-85 mph fastball and low-70s curveball adeptly.

Joe Boyle (2017 RHP, O’Fallon, MO) was also impressive in his two innings of work. The physical, 6’5, 200 pound righthander ran his fastball up to 89 mph, working consistently in the 87-88 range, with some life when located down in the strike zone. Boyle also mixed in a solid 73-74 mph breaking ball that flashed sharp bite and varied 11/5 to 12/6 shape.  He struck out two batters and didn’t allow a hit in his two innings.

Bryce Bowen (2017 1B, Bowman, GA) stood out at the plate. The strongly-built 6-foot-5, 205 pound lefthanded hitter, showed solid bat speed and feel for the barrel in ripping an RBI single to right field in the third inning.

Cole Beavin (2017 RHP, Ocoee, FL) threw well in his two innings after the rain delay. Beavin offers a projectable, lean frame and long-limbs.  He worked comfortably with an 82-85 mph fastball, which he was able to locate well, and showed an astute feel for both a slider in the high-70s and and softer curveball in the upper-60s.  Beavin struck out two hitters.

Bryson Hutchinson (2017 1B, Port Orange, FL) showed good velocity on his physical frame, working in the 86-88 range and touching 90 mph with his fastball in his two innings on the mound.  Hutchinson also worked in a fading changeup and a developing feel from his ¾ arm slot. Hutchinson struck out two in his two innings of work.

Donovan Benoit (2017 OF, Pensacola, FL) made the loudest contact of the game, driving an 85 mph belt high fastball off of the left center field wall for a double.
