Black vs. Columbia Blue
Mitchell Miller (2016 LHP, Covington, GA) is going to be an interesting arm to follow moving forward given his highly projectable 6-foot-5, 180-pound frame with impressive stuff to match. Working with an up-tempo delivery, Miller shows a fast and loose left arm from a lower three-quarter slot, creating nice velocity and difficult angle on hitters. Running his fastball up to 89 mph while sitting consistently in the upper-80s while showing the ability to work down in the zone. To complement his fastball, the Mississippi State commit featured three different off speed pitches with his changeup featuring some late fade in the in the 78-80 mph range.
Carter Kieboom (2016 3B, Marietta, GA) followed up an impressive round of batting practice with a quality in game swing off of Zach Linginfelter. Keeping his weight back on an 80 mph slider and squaring it up down the left field line for a standup double. He followed up with a single off the glove of the diving first baseman, giving him a two hit game.
Zach Linginfelter (2016 RHP, Sevierville, TN) captured the attention of scouts in the first inning when he came out pumping 92-95 mph fastball with life to the lower quadrants of the strike zone. With a strong and athletic build, the University of Tennessee commit filled up the zone with his heater along with both a slider and changeup. Maintaining his slot on both, each pitch projects well moving forward with a slider at 80 showing short and late fading life while his change in the mid-80s.
Nolan Jones (2016 SS, Langhorne, PA) began the day with a nice defensive play at shortstop while charging in on a ground ball deflected off the pitcher’s glove and delivering an off balance strike to first base.
Alex Speas (2016 RHP, Powder Springs, GA) came out throwing the ball and everybody in attendance took notice. Sitting comfortably in the mid-90s over his two innings while peaking at 97 mph, Speas showed a loose and easy arm action coming from a balanced delivery. With a long and projectable frame, Speas showed the ability to work downhill with his fastball, getting to his glove side and showing life on the pitch. His curveball also developed throughout his two innings with the last couple he snapped off being his best, up to 82 mph with sharp break and nice depth.
Khalil Lee (2016 OF, Centreville, VA) followed up an impressive round of batting practice with a line drive single into left field, lining an outer half fastball for a hard line drive knock.
Karl Kauffmann (2016 RHP, Bloomfield Hills, MI) impressed for his two innings of work, showing one of the easiest arm actions of the day en route to producing top velocity of 93 mph with angle and downhill plane. Maintaining from the stretch, Kauffmann worked comfortably in the low-90s throughout his outing and did so while showing a nice feel for both his curveball and changeup.
After throwing an impressive 95 mph from the outfield in the drills portion of the workout, Jaren Shelby (2016 OF, Lexington, KY) showed a nice two-strike approach as he simply flicked his wrists on an upper-80s fastball, finding the barrel and squaring it up into center field.
The state of Colorado was well represented on the mound as four of the eight arms to throw hail from the Centennial State. University of North Carolina commit Bo Weiss (2016 RHP, Castle Rock, CO) was the first to take the mound Working exclusively out of the stretch, Weiss ran his fastball up to 91 mph while working steadily in the upper-80s from a high three-quarter slot, showing the ability to work down in the strike zone.
Right-handers Austin Wood (2016 RHP, Niwot, CO) and Jake Eissler (2016 RHP, Littleton, CO) squared off for their two innings, each showing quality stuff on the mound. With a fastball that ran up to 91 mph, Wood consistently lived in the bottom part of the strike zone with some cutting life while mixing in both a curveball and changeup. A Texas Christian Unviersity commit, Eissler was very quick and efficient on the mound, sitting in the 87-89 mph with downhill plane. While he threw he fastball for a majority of his strikes, Eissler displayed a strong feel for a late fading changeup in the 78-80 mph range.
Rounding out the quartet of arms was right-hander Paul Tillotson (2016 RHP, Monument, CO), a University of Nebraska commit who was more than efficient in his two innings on the mound. Pounding low to his glove side regularly with his fastball that sat in the 88-90 mph range, Tillotson showed a 12-6 curveball and an upper-70s changeup.
Camyrn Williams (2016 SS, Lutz, FL) made a nice play at shortstop in the bottom of the eighth inning for his Columbia Blue team, showing quick feet and solid range up the middle with a jump step throw with his weight taking him away from the bag to get the runner.
