Louisiana: Stephen Richardson Tournament Thursday Wrap-Up

Catholic 3 Barbe 2

LHP Jacob Knox got the win, striking out 8 over 5 innings. He walked two and allowed two hits. Knox worked 82-85 with his fastball touching 86. He is aggressive on the mound and also features a very solid CH/CB mix.
-
SS Gavin Cecchini impressed again with a 2-3 performance that included a single and a double. Cecchini has also added strength over the winter and is a top position player in the 2012 class. He is a 6.75 runner with clean, smooth actions at short, as well as advanced swing actions with more pop to come.
-Barbe may have the best young talent in the state. Six freshman are on the roster, four started Thursday. Two to watch are
CF Trey Quinn and 3B Kennon Fontenot
-Another freshman,
Bryce Jordan hit a home run to cut the Catholic lead to 3-2, but RHP Alex Massey came in for the save, working his fastball 89-92

RHP Taylor Butler was 83-86 for Barbe

Zachary 9 Neville 3
-Zachary
LHP Taylor Guilbeau was lights out, striking out 11 in 6 innings. He allowed three hits an one earned run, picking up the win. He worked 86-88, touching 89 with his fastball

Holy Cross 2 Dutchtown 1
-
RHP Jacob Waguespack was 86-88, touching 89 five times. He is a 6'4 200 lb pitcher with clean mechanics, good arm action, and a chance for more velocity. He also has a good SL/CH combo and could emerge as one of the top pitchers in the state

Parkview 4 West Monroe 2

-RHP Will Bacon got the start for Parkview and was 85-86 with his fastball.

-RHP Michael Mentzer came in and threw three scoreless innings. His fastball was 81-82 and he added in a very good 72 mph curveball

-Parkview jumped out to a 2-0 lead until Ray Paul Schexnaer and Logan Murray hit back to back home runs to tie the game

-Evan Richard and Jack Cloutare hit back to back home runs in the bottom of the 6th to give Parkview the win.

RHP Matthew Sharp was 84-86 touching 87
-East Ascension
OF Chase Rivett was 3-4 with a HR and two singles in a 9-7 loss to Ruston. He is a projectable athlete with a smooth, quick bat and power potential

-Sam Houston C Evan Powell looks the part, has strength and according to one scout is the best position prospect in the state
