Prospect Report: 2015 RHP Robert Peace >>

10/14/2013 1:42:38 AM

RHP Robert Peace (2015, Wrightwood, CA) was impressive on the mound for the ABD Bulldogs.  Peace is a tall and athletic pitcher who also showed ability to swing the bat and be a possible two-way prospect after blasting a triple off the bottom of the fence listed as 345 feet away.

Peace's FB sat at 85-86, bumping up to 87 MPH at times.  He has a high 3/4 arm action and loose arm action.  Peace also showed good feel for a CH, which was 78-79 MPH.  He threw the CH in all counts and was able to fool hitters with good arm action and movement on the pitch.  Looks like there might be more velo to come, projectable.

Elsinore Cardinals Scout Notes >>

10/14/2013 1:25:59 AM

The Elsinore Cardinals made an impressive run in the 17u Division, finishing as runners-up.  The team never gave up and battled back in the final inning before coming up just short.  Here are some notes on a few of the Cardinal players:

-LHP Sammy Fitzgerald had plus movement on his 80-81 MPH FB and showed feel for a curveball as well.  He has an online delivery and 3/4 arm angle.

-SS Johnny Salgado of Whittier, CA made a number of impressive plays throughout the weekend.  He has a quick transfer and strong arm to turn double plays, while also making some backhanded plays in the hole.  Good feel for the game as well.

-1B Ryan Davis of Tahquitz, CA showed huge power potential on a double to the LCF fence that one-hopped the 375 sign.  Strong and agressive hitter who also had a few hits to the pull side throughout the tournament.
Prospect Report: 2016 1B Isaiah Flowers >>

10/14/2013 12:42:37 AM

1B Isaiah Flowers (2016, Narbonne, CA) was a presence in the middle of the order for JG Baseball in the 16u SoCal Qualifier.  Flowers, who is listed at 6'3", 220 lbs, has a strong build and intimidating stature.  At the plate he showed a tremendous amount of raw power, blasting a walk-off grand slam in pool play.  Flowers later showed the ability to drive the ball to the opposite field, unloading on an outside pitch that landed just foul deep down the RF line.  He is aggressive at the plate and came up big for JG Baseball in numerous situations.  Shows potential to be a run producer who hits for power and average.
Notes on 16u ABD Bulldogs >>

10/14/2013 12:34:38 AM

The ABD Bulldogs played solid team baseball to win the 16u title.  They are a solid club from top to bottom, and here are some notes on the players seen at the PG Super25 Qualifier:

-LF Trent Pohl (2016, Aliso Viejo, CA) set the table for the high-powered offense, showing potential to be a solid leadoff hitter at the next level.  Pohl has a lean, athletic frame with room to grow as he matures.  He is aggressive on the bases and uses his speed to take an extra bag if given the opportunity.  Handles the bat well and makes solid contact.

-SS Michael Odgers (2016, Granite Hills, CA) was a force at the plate, making hard contact regularly.  He has good bat speed and a compact swing.  Odgers made all the plays up the middle and has the arm to play the position as he continues to develop.

-1B Jake Lewis (2016, Valencia, CA) is an athletic 6'3" lefty who will only get better as he fills out.  Lewis' sweet swing from the left side produced a number of line drives and hard ground balls that got through for base hits.

-CF Marcus Salaz (2016, Upland, CA) has an aggressive approach at the plate and ability to get on top of the ball.  He hits hard line drives and uses the middle of the field, showing some pop in his bat as well.

As previously noted, the team was solid from top to bottom and they will be fun to watch as they advanced to the SoCal Regional.
Prospect Report: 2017 SS Nick Allen >>

10/14/2013 12:09:28 AM

One of the many impressive prospects on the CBA Marucci 2016 team is actually a 2017 Grad, SS Nick Allen from El Cajon, CA.

Allen is a high energy player, a spark plug in the order who can handle the bat and execute in different situations for the team.  The bat plays, but what stood out about Allen is his defensive ability up the middle.  Sure hands, solid footwork, and great athleticism make him an interesting prospect at the SS position.  He is a quick twitch player who has good instincts and a very strong arm across the diamond.  Will be fun to watch as he matures and develops.
Jabara and Nies Pitch CBA to Championship >>

10/13/2013 11:52:15 PM

CBA Marucci 2016's won the final game of the tournament to take home the title in the 17u division.  This team, just like the CBA Marucci 2015 team, is loaded with talent and an exciting group to watch.

CBA received outstanding pitching performances in both games of the day.  In the semifinals, 2016 RHP Cameron Jabara (Irvine, CA) was impressive on the mound to earn the win and bring his team to the championship game.  In the finals, Charles Nies (2017, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) went the distance in the close game against the Elsinore Cardinals.  Nies showed good command of his 81-83 MPH fastball, but he also used a solid CH to get multiple strikeouts against LHH.
Prospect Report: 2016 RHP Ricky Rivera >>

10/13/2013 9:52:31 PM

Ricky Rivera (2016, Alta Loma HS, CA) was impressive on the mound for JG Baseball in his relief appearance during the semifinal game against ABD.  On his second straight day in relief, the 5'7" right hander was 82-84 MPH with his FB, topping out at 85.  He has a repeatable delivery and solid mechanics, throwing from a high 3/4 arm angle.  The ball comes out of his hand clean, he has a quick arm and riding life on the FB.  Rivera also shows a hard slider that is almost more of a cutter at times, registering at 73-74 MPH.
ABD Wins 16u Championship >>

10/13/2013 9:36:17 PM

The ABD Bulldogs took home the title in the 16u Division, beating the Las Vegas Bulldogs in the championship by the score of 3-2.  ABD was impressive to watch all weekend and they have a number of highly talented players that will be fun to watch as they develop in the upcoming years.

ABD advanced to the Championship game by beating JG Baseball, largely in part to the pitching performance of LHP Parker White (2016, Aliso Viejo, CA).  White is a polished southpaw who shows a lot of pitch-ability and composure on the mound.  He attacked both sides of the plate with all pitches, effectively pitching inside and keeping the ball down.  White used his changeup primarily against RHH and his sweeping curveball was tough on LHH.

As a team, ABD's offense was full of pesky hitters.  They put on a clinic of how to hit the ball to the opposite field, and they successfully executed a number of hit and runs.
Outlaws win 14u Title >>

10/13/2013 9:06:23 PM

The Outlaws took home the crown in the 14u SoCal Fall Classic.  The team based out of Whittier, CA had an impressive weekend, topping it off by beating the Colton Nighthawks 5-0 in the Championship game.

In the Semifinal game, the Outlaws fell behind 3-0 in the first inning, and were trailing 5-1 in the fifth before battling back.  They scored four runs in the fifth and then two more in the 6th to win by the score of 7-6 over SCYB.  They had no need to make a comeback in the championship game, getting a shutout performance on the mound and playing great team defense to win the title.

10/13/2013 8:47:50 PM

The So Cal SKLZ defeated the SD Slam in a tight game (6-5) to win the first round of the 14u playoffs.  LHP Spencer Jones (2019, La Costa Canyon, CA) played a major role in the victory, both on the mound and at the plate.  Jones allowed only one hit in four innings without surrendering a single earned run.  He also had 2 RBI to help the SKLZ advance.

ABD Tops Cardinals In Thriller >>

10/13/2013 1:38:03 AM

In the 17u Division, the ABD Bulldogs defeated the Elsinore Cardinals in a well-played and competitive game by both teams.  ABD jumped ahead to a 2-0 lead with an RBI single from Johnny Weeks.  However, the Cardinals fought back to take the lead in the third, before ABD's Dylan Baker (2014, Redlands, CA) shut the door.  Baker did not allow an earned fun over four innings, allowing his team to stay in the game and eventually come back for the victory.  Both teams showed a lot of talent in all facets of the game, and it was an exciting game to watch.
2016 1B Has Impressive Showing >>

10/13/2013 1:28:23 AM

The most impressive individual performance of the day goes to 2016 1B Isaiah Flowers (JG Baseball) in their first game of the day.  Flowers, who stands 6'3" tall with a strong and athletic build, drove in all but one of the team's runs scored in their 7-6 victory over Team Lidle Baseball Club.  Going 2-2 with 6 RBI and a walk-off Grand Slam, Isaiah proved himself as a player to watch develop down the road.

10/13/2013 1:19:36 AM

2016 OF Josh Stephen (Chino Hills, CA) hit in the leadoff spot for CBA Marucci in their two wins on Saturday.  Stephen, a Southern California commit, is ranked the 12th overall prospect in the nation and the third ranked player in California for the 2016 class.  PG scouts have said that he has a nice easy swing and the ball jumps off his bat.

Centurions Go 2-0 On Saturday >>

10/13/2013 12:59:30 AM

In the 15u Division, the Centurions got off to a great start by going 2-0 in pool play.  The team won their first game of the day by the score of 4-0 over the So Cal Bombers 2017's.  The Centurions then went on to beat the Colton Nighthawks in a 3-2 game to earn the top seed heading into Championship Sunday.

With only two runs allowed in two games, it is obvious to say that pitching and defense has been key to the team's success.  However, the clutch hitting and team baseball displayed by the Centurions has been a major reason that they are the only undefeated team in the 15u Division.
Nighthawks top Slam in Offensive Battle >>

10/12/2013 11:32:55 PM

The Colton Nighthawks moved to 2-0 in the 14u Division with a 12-11 win over the San Diego Slam.  Both teams were hot at the plate, battling back and forth the entire game.  In the end, the Nighthawks were able to come out on top by a single run, securing the top seed in the Division going into Championship Sunday.

SKLZ and Outlaws Play To A Tie >>

10/12/2013 3:47:37 PM

Two solid programs, the So Cal SKLZ and the SoCal Outlaws, paired up for a highly competitive game in the 14u division.  The two teams played to a tie, finishing the game at the time limit with a final score of 2-2.

The SKLZ, based out of San Diego, are a solid group of players who showed great knowledge of the game and solid fundamentals.  They played good team defense and were tough outs at the plate.

The Outlaws are a scrappy group of ballplayers that really took advantage of opportunities throughout the game.  Both of these teams should be fun to watch the rest of the tournament and play a major role in who qualifies for the SoCal Regional.
