2014 Caribbean Underclass Showcase

Yelin O Rodriguez (2016 LHP, Arroyo, PR) had his fastball sitting at 84-86mph with his curveball at 68mph. Rodriguez has a fast loose arm action with 2-8 shape on his curveball and struck out 7 hitters in 2 innings of work today. 

Gabriel Rodriguez (2017 OF, Toa Alta, PR) showed off his bat speed today for the White team. Rodriguez had a single and a stolen base in the game with his hit coming off the bat at 88mph. 

Jean Michael Perez Vargas (2016 OF, San Juan, PR) looked good in the outfield today for the White team. Perez Vargas takes good routes to fly balls and covers a lot of ground. 

Yadiel Fonseca (2016 RHP, Caguas, PR) had his fastball sitting at 85-87mph with his curveball at 72mph and his slider at 78mph. Fonseca has a compact arm action while hiding the ball well in his delivery. 

Jean Carlos Correa Oppenheimer (2016 SS, Santa Isabel, PR) looked good at the plate this afternoon for the Orange team. Correa Oppenheimer has a sound approach at the plate with a good swing and hits the ball to all fields.

Francisco Del Valle (2016 OF, Santa Isabel, PR) is a strong 6-foot-1, 190-pound left handed hitter with very good bat speed.  He swings hard with a power approach and consistently drove the ball hard to the gaps.

Jose Layer (2016 OF, San Juan, PR) is slender and very projectable physically.  He creates lots of whip and barrel speed from the right side and projects especially well for future power.

Alexis Torres (2016 SS, Caguas, PR) hits from a high hand approach and does a very good job of staying on top of the ball and squaring it up with hard line drive contact.

Juan D. Torres (2016 SS, Orocovis, PR) had some of the best fundamental approaches of all the hitters at the event and showed quick hands to the ball.  He'll keep improving with additional strength.

Jose Alejandro Marcano Rivera (2017 SS, Humacao, PR) took a very nice round of batting practice, squaring up almost every pitch from a quick, short swing that projects well.

Kevin Rolon (2016 SS, Ponce, PR) is extremely slender at 6-foot-3, 153-pounds but is able to generate very good bat speed and barrel whip despite his lack of evident muscle.  When he starts to get strong, watch out!

Vincent Ramos (2016 OF, Levittown,  Toa Baja) was one of the strongest players at the showcase and that strength showed when he squared up the ball, something he'll do more frequently with a better trigger and shift to the ball.

Gabriel Rodriguez (2017 OF, Toa Alta, PR) is only a sophomore but has some present strength and bat speed, plus plenty of looseness and projection from the left side.

Nathan David Torres Soto (2016 SS, Hatillo, PR) hits from a bent knee stance with an upper cut swing plane that can be adjusted but has lots of present bat speed and the ball jumped when he squared it up.

Ricardo De La Torre (2017 SS, Juana Diaz, PR) has a loose extended swing with good bat speed and lots of projection; plus he's only a sophomore.

Kevin Bermudez (2016 C, Santa Isabel, PR) showed some of the best raw power in the Underclass batting practice, with a good shift into contact and a strong right handed swing.

Gilberto Martinez (2016 LHP, Guaynabo, PR) throws from a high 3/4 arm slot with a smooth easy delivery. Martinez threw strikes consistently in his outing and flashed tight spin to his curveball. 

Juan Cruz (2016 OF, San Lorenzo, PR) tripled in the game for the White team today. Cruz displayed gap pop in his bat with a nice easy swing. 

Ricardo De La Torre (2017 SS, Juana Diaz, PR) doubled in the game this afternoon. De La Torre has a good swing and the ball carries off his bat. 

Nathan David Torres Soto (2016 SS, Hatillo, PR) displayed good plate coverage today with a sound approach. 

Elliot J. Antonetty (2016 C, Gurabo, PR) was 3-3 in the game for the Steel team with a double and 2 singles. Antonetty makes solid consistent contact at the plate with bat speed and a level swing. 

Jan Arroyo (2016 2B, Cayey, PR) had a couple of his in the game for the Steel team as well. Arroyo has a line drive swing plane smashing both singles down the left field line.

Jesse Fajardo (2016 RHP, Calle 4 Carolina, PR) had his fastball sitting at 78-82mph with it topping out at 83mph to go along with his curveball at 69mph and his changeup at 72mph. Fajardo has a fast paced delivery with a high 3/4 arm slot and a loose arm. Fajardo has a repeatable delivery keeps the ball down in the zone with a curveball that has tight spin and bite to it. 

Juan D. Torres (2016 SS, Orocovis, PR) had a single in the game for the Orange team. Torres makes hard line drive contact at the plate with a good swing. 

Wesley Reyes (2016 MIF, Bayamon, PR) also had a single in the game for the Orange team. Reyes has a level swing and drives the ball to the gaps. 

Dillon Stimpson (2016 RHP, Fairfield, CT) has a projectable build throwing from a thigh low 3/4 arm slot with a deceptive delivery. Stimpson does a good job of hiding the ball with big fade to his changeup. Stimpson had his fastball sitting at 84-87mph with his curveball at 71mph and his changeup at 71mph. 

Jose Alejandro Marcano Rivera (2017 SS, Humacao, PR) made good contact at the plate including a single. Marcano Rivera has a good swing with an athletic projectable frame.

Sebastian Martinez (2016 RHP, Trujillo Alto, PR) had his fastball sitting at 82-85mph with his curveball at 71mph and his slider at 78mph. Martinez has a solid lower half with a compact 3/4 release gets the ball on hitters hands well and maintain his velocity throughout the afternoon. 

Jose Alejandro Marcano Rivera (2017 SS, Humacao, PR) displayed good bat speed at the plate today with a level swing. Marcano Rivera had a ball come off his bat at 86mph. 

Vincent Ramos (2016 OF, Levittown,  Toa Baja) had a hit today for the Steel team in their second game. Ramos has good bat speed with a line drive swing plane and had a ball come off his bat at 87mph. 

Juan Jimenez (2016 C, Carolina, PR) showed off the bat in his bat with a long fly ball to left field. Jimenez has a strong build with lift in his swing. 

Francisco Del Valle (2016 OF, Santa Isabel, PR) is a gap to gap hitter with pop and bat speed. Del Valle tripled to RCF in the game for the Orange team. 

Yamil Rosario (2016 OF, Gurabo, PR) also had a hit in the game for the Orange team. Rosario has a sound approach at the plate and makes consistent hard contact with his hit coming off the bat at 86mph.

Jeremy Rivera (2016 SS/RHP, Aibonito, PR) had his fastball sitting at 83-85mph with his curveball at 70mph and his changeup at 75mph. Rivera pitches from a 3/4 arm slot with extension and flashes arm side run on his fastball.

Josue Sanchez (2017 C, Bayamon, PR) lined a single to left field for the White team. Sanchez has a sound approach with a nice easy swing. 

Jean Michael Perez Fargas (2016 OF, Venus Gardens, PR) showed off his arm in left field throwing a runner out at home. Fargas has good carry to his throws with an accurate arm.

Luis Santos (2016 RHP, Bayamon, PR) displayed run on his fastball flashing curveball depth pitching with good tempo and throws his pitches for strikes. Santos had his fastball sitting at 76-79mph with his curveball at 61mph and his changeup at 67mph. 

Nathan David Torres Soto (2016 SS, Hatillo, PR) had a hit in the game for the White team. Torres Soto made line drive contact with a nice swing. 

Alan Marrero (2016 C, Bayamon, PR) made solid line drive contact up the middle for a single in the game. 

Hector A Torres (2016 OF, Manati, PR) had good at bats this morning showing bat speed with pop in his bat. 

Juan Jimenez (2016 C, Carolina, PR) Lined a single to CF today showing off his bat speed. The ball came off the bat at 88mph.
