1-Black vs. 14-Texas Orange >>

6/8/2015 5:19:42 PM

Black (#1) Highlights

Gregory Albert (2017 OF, Medford, NJ): Albert really had a good weekend overall, but he added a new wrinkle to his profile by stepping on the mound for the Black team and shutting down Texas Orange over 2 innings of work. With a good fastball that was up to 83 MPH with life to go along with a good downer curveball, Albert has swing and miss stuff to go with good athleticism throughout the rest of his game.

Travis Zurita (2017 OF, Ozone Park, NY): Zurita had a good overall day on Sunday, hitting an absolute seed up the middle for a single in the 9th inning, then stealing both 2nd and 3rd base, showing off his good speed and excellent base running instincts.

Texas Orange (#14) Highlights

Colby Shimmel (2016 RHP, Windsor, PA): Shimmel is a big, strong, physical right-hander with good present stuff and projection. He struck out 4 hitters over 3 perfect innings, working with his fastball anywhere from 80-83 with a knee-buckling 11/5 curveball with excellent depth.

Michael Farr (2017 RHP, Metuchen, NJ): Farr is an XL-framed pitching prospect with excellent, high-end physical projection. He pounded the zone across 3 innings of work with a fastball that touched 83 MPH, complemented by a power slider with sharp tilt and bat-missing potential in the mid 70's.

Tyler Mandel (2017 3B, Scarsdale, NY): Mandel went 3-3 on Sunday with 3 rockets, including an opposite-field double that one-hopped the wall in RF. He has quick hands to go with present extra base power that should manifest itself into more HR power as he continues to develop--but there's no doubt that he can hit now and will continue to do so moving forward.

Darren Aupperle (2016 3B, Barrington, NJ): Aupperle collected two knocks on Sunday, a single to RF and a massive 3 run home run to left field. Good overall hitter with a spray approach, shows ability to backspin the ball into gaps and will have even more power as he develops.

He ran his fastball up to 85 MPH with excellent life on the pitch, and showed a sharp, two-plane curveball that was nearly impossible for opposing hitters to pick up.

He blocks well and moves side to side very effectively. Makes good contact consistently, collecting a pair of hits in Sunday's game, showing quality bat speed and developing strength that could turn into power down the road.

Showed good ability to stay on the baseball and hit it with authority wherever it was located.

Brandon Neeck (2018 LHP, Chappaqua, NY): Delivered in a big way with the bat on Saturday evening, drilling a 3 run bomb in the 7th inning. Shows off impressive bat speed and raw pop for a prospect who is only a rising sophomore; and he will have even more power as he continues to develop physically.

Ivan Rivera (2016 SS, Brooklyn, NY): Rivera was impressive with the glove all weekend long, showing excellent range and instincts at the shortstop position, to go along with smooth hands, clean actions, and an above-average throwing arm with accuracy from several arm angles.

Texas Orange (#14) Highlights

Aaron Winkler (2016 RHP, Pound Ridge, NY): Winkler started for the Texas Orange team, and after a bit of a bumpy 1st inning he settled in very nicely, striking out 5 over 4 innings of work. He shows highly projectable arm speed, pitches with a fastball already in the low-mid 80's; and flashes excellent feel for both a slider and changeup as his off speed pitches.

Colby Dunlop (2016 SS, Dover Plains, NY): Dunlop showed well in several facets of the game on Saturday. He struck out two hitters during his inning on the mound, showing a quick arm and fastball up to 82 MPH. Also stroked two hard-hit singles and showed off very good speed on the base paths.

Henry Davis (2018 C, Bedford, NY): Davis showed all weekend that he has high-level potential in the 2018 class, and put his tools on display on Saturday. Receives very well behind the plate with good arm strength and sub 2.0 second pop times; runs very well, has the athleticism to play the OF, and handles the bat with polish beyond his years. He's certainly one to watch moving forward.
11-Royal vs. 8-Orange >>

6/8/2015 1:07:16 AM

The Royal (#11) and Orange (#8) teams squared off at Morie Park on Saturday afternoon during the Sunshine Northeast Showcase.

Highlights: Royal (#11)

Tyler Hickey (2016 RHP, Bel Air, MD): Hickey showed very well on the mound for the Royal team, scattering 3 hits and 1 run over 4 innings while striking out 8 hitters. He gets downhill very well from his XL height and frame, generating very good arm speed and plane to the plate from a high 3/4 arm slot. Worked 79-81, topping at 82 MPH and pounding his fastball in the bottom of the zone. Got lots of weak contact on the pitch. Complemented his fastball with a tight, sharp 11/5 breaking curveball that missed a lot of bats.

A.J. DiFillipo (2016 3B, Peabody, MA): The athletic, large-framed DiFillipo closed the game for the Royal team and closed it well, striking out 3 (one reached via dropped 3rd strike) and finishing the game with a weak grounder to SS. Shows very good arm speed, short arm circle to overtop slot, and resulting in a sinking, heavy low 80's fastball that topped at 84 MPH. Mixed in a sharp-breaking curveball with great depth as well as a quality changeup with good velocity differential and fading action.

Daniel Keer (2017 OF, Lehighton, PA): The rising junior Keer put on a powerful display with the bat on Saturday, hitting a deep home run to the opposite field. He shows good bat speed with excellent plate coverage and natural loft in his swing.

Matt Salzano (2017 OF, Towaco, NJ): Like his teammate Keer, Salzano also showed off some power on Saturday while hitting a home run to the opposite field. He tracks the ball very well and uses his excellent natural strength to drive the baseball back where it's pitched, while generating quality backspin on the ball.

Matthew Ryan (2017 RHP, Skillman, NJ): Ryan had one of the more impressive swings of the day, hitting an absolute rocket right over the center fielder's head for a stand up double. It was a very hard hit baseball, highlighted by Ryan's balanced swing and consistent up-the-middle approach.

Highlights: Orange (#8)

Drew McLaughlin (2017 RHP, North Wales, PA): The rising junior showed very well in his 4 innings of work, using a very heavy fastball and sharp slider to keep hitters off balance, racking up 5 strikeouts and allowing only 2 hits on the day. He hides the ball very well in his delivery, which allows his mid-upper 70's FB to appear even quicker to hitters.

Robert Giovanelli (2017 SS, Manhasset, NY): Giovanelli closed the game for the Orange team, and showed quality pitchability and a very fast arm. He worked 79-81 with his fastball consistently, challenging hitters with that fastball and pounding the zone. He struck out 2 of the 4 batters he faced, and complemented his good fastball with a sharp curveball that missed bats.

Will Phillips (2016 OF, Media, PA): Phillips stood out in two key phases of the game on Saturday: Both with the bat and on the base paths. He employs a simple approach with a line drive swing plane, collecting a pair of solid singles during the game. He also showed off his speed by swiping a base and showing excellent feel for taking the extra base and reading balls hit in the air.

Michael "MJ" Dziczkowski, Jr. (2017 RHP/1B, Woodbridge, CT): Dziczkowski showed off potential plus power on Saturday, absolutely hammering a ball over the RCF fence, off the roof of a maintenance building--easily a 370-380 foot shot to the opposite field for the XL-framed, very strong righty. He shows outstanding strength in his swing, combined with plenty of leverage and developing bat speed. That won't be his last HR, that's for absolute sure.
