Orange vs. Navy Game Highlights  >>

11/8/2015 4:50:44 PM

Jacob Whorrall (2017 RHP, Spring, TX) ran his fastball up to 84 mph early in his outing and projects nicely as he continues to fill out his frame. His arm action is loose and easy throwing from a lower three-quarters arm slot and did a nice job of attacking hitters. Whorrall also showed a feel for an 11-5 breaking ball up to 66 mph.

Marcelo Perez (2018 OF, Laredo, TX) only threw an inning on the mound but he showed the best velocity of the game topping at 86 mph while sitting 83-85 mph. His arm action is easy and clean and should continue to throw harder in the future. He also threw a sharp breaking ball at 74 mph that helped him strike out the side. He also showed a short swing with bat speed when he picked up a single in his first trip.

Though a primary catcher, Kendall Price (2017 C, Forney, TX) was able to strike out five in his two innings of work while topping out at 81 mph with his fastball. He mixed in both a changeup and curveball well and gave hitters different looks by dropping his arm slot with intent.

Tommy Blitchok (2018 C, Grandville, MI) continued to have a nice weekend at the plate as the 6-foot-1, 190-pound catcher put together a multi-hit game. Using his physicality Blitchok gets his hands into a good hitting position and consistently found the barrel as he singled through the 5-6 hole and then doubled to deep centerfield before coming around to score the lone run.

Ty Michael Dragos (2017 C, Humble, TX) had three hits on the day and two of them came in this particular game. After singling in his first trip to the plate, Drago lined a ball into the right-centerfield gap for a double. He starts his swing with a small leg lift trigger and projects as he continues to fill out his long frame.

Maroon vs. Orange Game Highlights  >>

11/8/2015 4:40:52 PM

Joe Sondock (2018 LHP, Houston, TX) has a young and projectable frame that helped produce a fastball in the 78-81 mph, topping at 82 mph while creating nice angle out of his hand. He struck out four batters during his three innings and threw both a curveball and changeup nicely for strikes.

The Maroon team was able to plate a run in the fourth and picked up base knocks from Carlos Calvillo (2018 OF, Pearland, TX), Carlos Calvillo (2018 OF, Pearland, TX), Jake Gilluly (2017 C, Austin, TX), and Barrone Porter (2017 SS, Collierville, TN). Garza's ball came off the barrel well that bounced off the diving second baseman's glove and sounded good off the bat.

Michael Betrus (2018 SS, Lewisville, TX) had the lone extra-base hit of the game as the lefthanded hitter connected for a double into the opposite field gap before coming around to score Orange's lone run of the game.

Drew Holcombe (2017 RHP, Cypress, TX) uses his strength on his frame well to to generate bat speed from the right side and showed that bat speed as he picked up a line drive single into the opposite field.

Royal v. Gray Highlights >>

11/8/2015 4:31:14 PM

Luke Honeycutt (2018 RHP, Calhoun, LA) has a well-proportioned and strong 6-foot, 185 pound frame. He ran his fastball up to 86 mph in the early going. He also showed some feel for a short slider/cutter in the 78-81 mph range and he struck out six batters in his four innings of work.

Chas Sagedahl (2017 LHP, Prairie Du Chien, WI) has a long, lean projectable 6-foot-2, 170 frame. The southpaw threw three hitless innings, effectively mixing a variety of pitches and showing a deep repertoire and knowledge of how to pitch. Sagedahl's 76-79 mph fastball gets on hitters quickly, and he was able to throw strikes with both his breaking ball and changeup throughout his outing.

Austin Brown (2018 OF, Spring, TX) showed comfort in using the opposite field as the righthanded hitter laced a double down the right field line. Brown is also athletic and a smart baserunner, and he subsequently stole third base and showed good instincts in the outfield.

Collin Beville (2017 3B, Austin, TX) flashed solid bat speed and feel for the barrel. The 5-foot-11, 185 pound infielder has quick hands and turned on an inside fastball and ripped it into right field.

Navy vs. Maroon Game Highlights >>

11/8/2015 4:30:53 PM

Aaron Brooks (2017 RHP, Blanchard, OK) did a nice job over his four innings of consistently mixing his fastball and curveball, missing several bats in the progress. Up to 87 mph with his fastball from a short and quick arm action, Brooks also displayed a nice feel for a sharp curveball at 72 mph which helped collect several of his seven strikeouts.

Jonah Bailey (2017 SS, Boerne, TX) made a quick one inning appearance on the mound and impressed with his arm strength as he sat 80-83 mph with his fastball from a high three-quarter arm slot. His arm action is easy and he showed a feel for his 11-5 curveball at 66 mph. Bailey also picked up a single which he hit up the middle, coming off the barrel sharply with a good sound.

Barrone Porter (2017 SS, Collierville, TN) showed off his short and compact swing again throughout the day, connecting for one of the harder his balls on a hot shot hit towards the third baseman.

Caston Peter (2018 C, Houston, TX) put a nice swing on a ball that he shot back up the middle to the right of the second base bag for a well struck single. He shows quickness to his swing and is alert on the bases as he swiped third standing up.

Fernando Benavides (2018 SS, Laredo, TX) has shown off arm strength from shortstop throughout the weekend and did so off the mound as well, topping at 81 mph with his fastball. He picked up a strikeout and allowed just one hit while adding one of his own that also drove in a run for his team.

Justin Butz (2018 LHP, McKinney, TX) had the only multiple hit day in this game twice going to the opposite field for singles while showing some feel for the barrel.

Gray v. Red Highlights >>

11/8/2015 4:20:21 PM

Mateo Martinez (2019 C, Wichita, KS) has good strength and athleticism in his 6-foot-1, 175 pound frame. Martinez was 1-for-2, with a single to left field and a hard-hit deep fly ball to left field that was caught, but was very well struck. He also pitched one scoreless inning,

Dawson Shibley (2017 2B, Conroe, TX) was 1-for-3, but like, Martinez one of his outs was a very well hit ball. The lean, athletic infielder has a good approach and uses the entire field, showing particular comfort in working the opposite way, as both his base hit and well-struck line-drive outs were to right field.

Brandon Anderson (2017 RHP, Omaha, NE) is a primary pitcher, but he showed good strength, bat speed, and an aggressive approach at the plate, jumping on a first-pitch fastball and driving it into the left center field gap for a double.

Justin Elizondo (2017 3B, Austin, TX) struck out four batters in two innings of relief work. The leanly-built, athletic righty has a 76-80 mph fastball with good armside run and sinking life and he flashed a quality 68-72 mph breaking ball.

Red v. Royal Highlights >>

11/8/2015 4:12:14 PM

Justin Elizondo (2017 3B, Austin, TX) was 2-for-2 in the game, stroking two singles to the opposite field. The righthanded hitter has a discerning eye at the plate with an advanced approach and shows comfort in using the entire field.

Brandon Anderson (2017 RHP, Omaha, NE) struck out seven batters over four innings. The 6-foot-2, 185 pound righty used his 80-84 mph fastball effectively, locating it to the bottom half of the strike zone and also flashing some feel for both a mid-60s breaking ball and an upper-60s changeup.

Zayne Watson (2018 OF, The Woodlands, TX) made a nice diving play in center field. Watson also was 1-for-2, hitting a single to left field.

Drew Shifflet (2018 RHP, Nacogdoches, TX) hit a double to left field, and the 5-foot-11, 190 pounder also showed some promise on the mound, striking out four over three innings and hitting 83 mph with his fastball.

National Underclass South BP Highlights >>

11/7/2015 11:54:05 PM

Hayden Travinski (2019 C, Haughton, LA) is a big and strong freshman at 6-1/194 with lots of strength and bat speed for his age.  He'll be worth following closely for the next few years.

Jonah Bailey (2017 SS, Boerne, TX) has a nice athletic build and lots of potential in his left handed swing, especially when he hits from above the ball and looks to drive it.

Jared Free (2017 OF, Frisco, TX) is a bit busy in his load but creates lots of raw bat speed from the right side and the ball jumps hard when he squares it up.

Tanner Lund (2018 3B, Tomball, TX) has a simple swing approach and a good swing plane.  He created consistent hard lline drive contact during his round and has the potential to keep improving.

Benjamin Zeidman (2017 OF, Houston, TX) has a sound approach at the plate and combines that with an aggressive swing that he's able to stay directional and balanced with at the same time.  He peppered the gaps with hard line drives.

Marcelo Perez (2018 OF, Laredo, TX) was one of many good young players from Laredo at the showcase.  He has lots of young strength in his 5-10/150 frame, with quick hands and the ability to make the ball jump off the barrel.

Ty Michael Dragos (2017 C, Humble, TX) took a nice round of BP and has lots of project to his swing.  He has good bat speed from a somewhat rotational swing and hit the ball hard to all fields.

Tyler Frank (2017 SS, Atoka, OK) has strength in his swing, especially for a middle infielder, and made lots of loud middle of the field line drive contact.

August Ramirez (2018 C, Helotes, TX) has an unusual left handed hitting approach that will need some adjustments in his direction towards contact but few hitters at the Underclass showcase showed his strength and bat speed.

Justin Elizondo (2017 3B, Austin, TX) has quick hands at the plate with an aggressive approach and drove the ball hard up both alleys.  He has good projection athletically.

Brandon Anderson (2017 RHP, Omaha, NE) is a primary pitcher but he had some of the best strength and power at the event and would have put a few balls well out of the park without the wind and moisture working against him.

Saul R Garza (2017 C, Linn, TX) is a big young man at 6-3/215 but he has a short swing for a hitter his size and drives the ball well, with a high ceiling physically if he can make some adjustments.

Norberto Cervantes (2017 C, Laredo, TX)  has a clean load and shift into contact, which enables him to his his strength well to create consistently impressive raw bat speed.

Hunter Koumonduros (2017 C, Richmond, TX) graded out the highest of any hitter at the Underclass showcase.  He hits the ball out front with an aggressive swing and showed the ability to pull the ball with power and authority.

Zayne Watson (2018 OF, The Woodlands, TX) hits from a very spread stance but does a good job of not locking out his lower half and creates a loose swing with plenty of bat speed.

Omar Cervantes (2018 3B, Laredo, TX) has a nice left handed swing with lots of easy natural life and power.
Maroon, Navy, and Orange Game Highlights >>

11/7/2015 11:07:36 PM

Caleb Bolden (2017 RHP, Texarkana, TX) put together a nice performance on the mound, showing a full three pitch mix while filling up the strike zone. With a projectable and long frame Bolden ran his fastball up to 84 mph while sitting in the low-80s. The curveball showed depth at 73 mph and his changeup may end up becoming his out pitch as it showed nice fade with some dive at 71 mph from the same arm slot.

With a strong 6-foot, 175-pound frame Jared Free (2017 OF, Frisco, TX) connected for one of the harder hit balls that ended up falling deep in centerfield for a three base hit. Beginning his swing with a leg kick trigger, Free did a nice job of staying short to the ball with nice bat speed and showed nice speed running from first to third.

Barrone Porter (2017 SS, Collierville, TN) connected for solid contact as well, coming off the barrel nicely which resulted in a double and showed nice speed on the bases.

Joseph Akers (2017 RHP, Holly Lake Ranch, TX)  worked in the 78-80 mph range, topping at 81 from a short and compact arm action. He showed both a curveball and slider for strikes as he struck out three during his three inning stint on the mound.

Tommy Blitchok (2018 C, Grandville, MI) is a strong and well put together 6-foot-1, 190-pound catcher and he showed his strength in his righthanded swing. Staying short to the ball with nice bat speed through the zone Blitchok showed a feel for the barrel and picked up a base hit to his pull side.  He also showed nice arm strength from behind the dish.

Nathan Letien (2017 OF, Conroe, TX) showed nice athleticism and some twitch to his swing as he connected for a double to his pull side that he was able to elevate while staying rather short to the ball. He moves well around the bases and projects nicely moving forward.

Caston Peter (2018 C, Houston, TX) had a nice two games with the bat as he doubled in each of his team's two games. In the first game he was able to double to deep centerfield and went that way again in his second trip to the plate, putting a nice swing on a fastball creating line drive contact.

Listed as a primary catcher, Erik Coomer (2018 C, Spring, TX) made one of the better defensive plays of the day as he broke in on a sinking line drive and made a diving play in the right-centerfield gap. He also picked up a single in the game.

A good athlete, Marcelo Perez (2018 OF, Laredo, TX) connected for one of the harder and louder hit balls as he lined a ball into left field for a hard line drive single. He also threw 85 mph from the outfield early in the day.

Royal v. White Highlights >>

11/7/2015 10:53:45 PM

Drew Shifflet (2018 RHP, Nacogdoches, TX) is a primary pitcher, but the 5-foot-11, 190 pound sophomore also has quality hitting tools. The right handed stroked a fastball over the left fielders head, strolling into second base for a stand-up double.

Kel Bordwine (2017 RHP, Cypress, TX) struck out seven in three scoreless innings of work. The 6-foot, 165 pound righty threw plenty of strikes with his 80-82 mph fastball. Similarly, he showed adept feel for two distinct breaking balls in both a tight low-70s slider and a 65-66 mph curveball with more depth.

Zayne Watson (2018 OF, The Woodlands, TX) struck out the side in his one inning of relief work. The primary outfielder showed some arm strength off of the mound, working in the 79-82 mph range with his heater, which had big tailing movement and was tough for hitters to track. He also worked in a 69-72 mph breaking ball.

Gold vs. Gray >>

11/7/2015 10:18:45 PM

Brandon Birdsell (2018 RHP, Willis, TX) sat 87-91 miles per hour, topping out at 92 with an 80 mile per hour slider.  Birdsell has quick, loose arm action with room to grow, very projectable young pitcher.

Herndon Akridge (2018 RHP, Mobile, AL) struck out seven hitters over three innings only surrounding one hit.  His arm works very well with easy arm action from an over the top arm slot.

Hayden Travinski (2019 C, Haughton, LA) showed some good raw power at the plate hitting an RBI double.

Reagan Gonzales (2017 LHP, San Antonio, TX) displayed a simple, easy swing at the plate with strong, quick hands.

Collin Beville (2017 3B, Austin, TX) struck out the only three hitters he faced in his easy one two three inning.  Beville sat 78-81, topping 82 miles per hour with 67 mile per hour curveball with good deception.

Red Vs. Purple Game Highlights >>

11/7/2015 9:59:39 PM

Jacob Grzebinski (2017 LHP, Bellaire, TX) Showed impressive command with plus run on a fastball that topped at 83mph. Jacob allowd 1 hit over 4 innings while striking out 8.

Benjamin Greer (2019 OF, Pearland, TX) Flashed solid barrel control, bat speed and balance on a double to the right centerfield gap.

Kevin Conley (2018 RHP, Spring, TX) Long 3/4 arm slot with a loose arm action. Effectively worked both sides of the plate with his fastball topping at 84 mph. Worked 3 innings on the mound, striking out 4 hitters while allowing 1 hit and 1 run.
