Westphal up to 87 MPH for Royal

Jake Westphal (2014 - Sioux City East HS) pitched at 84-87 MPH with a quick arm action.  He throws it pretty easy and the velocity projects with a few lower half adjustments.  Interesting arm to follow! 

Ryan Lillard (2014 - Urbandale HS) hit a home run to the right side of center field for the Royal team.  He's got good bat speed and strength in his swing.  His hitting tools project!

Zach Hovick (2014 - Roland-Story HS) had an RBI single for the Gold team.  

Burkamper up to 91 for Royal Team

Derek Burkamper (2013 - Muscatine HS) pitched very well in his 3 innings of work striking out 7 of 9 hitters.  He pitched steady at 89-91 MPH with his fastball and threw a hammer curveball at 76 MPH.  Burkamper is continually improving!

Ryan Lillard (2014 - Urbandale HS) looked real good defensively showing excellent actions and arm strength at shortstop.  He also showed good bat speed at the plate.

Dom Thompson-Williams (2013 - Sioux City East HS) showed good bat speed at the plate with a shorter swing path.  Brady Mayo (2014 - Bishop Heelan HS) also swung the bat well showing a short swing path to the ball with bat speed.  He hit a home run to center field and showed some pop.

Toran Shahidi (2014 - Ames HS) swung the bat well and showed good bat speed with a short swing path.  He squared the ball up well and showed good hitting tools.

Logan Augustine (2014 - Urbandale HS) pitched well at 81-84 MPH and showed control to both sides of the plate.  He also threw a slider for strikes at 76 MPH.  More velocity to come with some lower half adjustments.

Matt Flummerfelt (2015 - Ames HS) looked good on the mound pitching at 79-83 MPH.  His arm works well and there's more velocity to come with some adjustments.  Interesting young arm.

Orange Steel play to Tie

Cole Baker (2015, Dallas Center-Grimes Community HS) had his fastball sitting at 82-84mph with his curveball at 68mph. Baker has a large projectable frame, pitches from a low 3/4 arm angle, attacks hitters, and has good command of his pitches.

Matthew Ulrich (2013, Bettendorf HS) had his fastball sitting at 80-82mph with it topping out at 83mph and his curveball at 71mph. Ulrich pitches from a 3/4 arm angle, has good command, attacks hitters and hides the ball well.

Brentz Impressive in Spring League Debut

Jake Brentz (2013 - Ballwin, MO) was very impressive in his much anticipated Spring League debut.  The first batter of the game he went 95, 94, 96 MPH with his fastball for a 3 pitch strikeout.  Brentz was steady 92-95 MPH with his fastball the rest of the first inning.  One scout had him up to 97 MPH.  

Anthony Denkinger (2013 - Dowling HS) looked real good at the plate hitting a no doubt line drive home run to the right side of center field.  He hit a 92 MPH fastball off Brentz and showed real good strength in his swing.

Keaton McKinney (2014 - Ankeny HS) looked good at the plate making hard contact.  He hit a lazer up the middle off a Shane Cooper 86 MPH fastball.  

Shane Cooper (2013 - O'Fallon, MO) looked good on the mound pitching at 84-86 MPH with low effort.  The ball comes out of his hand easy and there's more in there.  

Matt Johnson (2013 - Ankeny HS) pitched well for the White team pitching at 83-86 MPH with his fastball with good run on it.  He also threw a good slider at 79 MPH.

Puk up to 89 MPH

AJ Puk (2013 - Washington HS) pitched at 88-89 MPH and threw a good curveball at 73 MPH.  He threw a very good change up at 79 MPH with good run on it.  

Luke Sommerfield (2014 - Elm Grove, WI) pitched well at 83-85 MPH and touched 86 MPH.  He threw his breaking ball for strikes and didn't allow a run in his 3 innings of work.  There's more velocity to come.

Logan Rupard (2014 - Hartland, WI) swung the bat well and showed good strength in his swing on a double off the wall.  

Schneider's triple earns Col. Blue Tie

Anthony Schneider (2014, Southeast Polk HS) had a couple of hits including a game tying triple with 2 outs in the top of the 7th to help the Columbia Blue team earn a tie. Schneider who had 2 hits in the game has a confident approach at the plate, makes good hard contact, and is a gap to gap hitter with bat speed.

Drew Yanecek (2015, Cedar Rapids Prairie HS) was 3-3 in the game to help pace the Columbia Blue team on offense as well. Yanecek has a good swing with bat speed, and hits to all fields.

Ben Jacobson (2013, Humboldt HS) pitched innings for the Steel team today topping out at 84mph on his fastball, with his curveball at 74mph. Jacobson pitches from a 3/4 arm angle, has good command, and throws his late breaking 12-6 curveball for strikes.

Kyle Crowl (2016, Abraham Lincoln HS) had a double in the game with 2 RBI's to help pace the Steel offense. Crowl is a line drive contact hitter with bat speed.

Gold outlasts Col. Blue

Arturo Oropeza Reyes (2014, Ames HS) had 2 hits to help pace the offense for the Gold team this morning. Reyes has pop in his bat with a good swing at the plate.

Alex Good (2015, Nevada HS) had a couple of hits as well for the Gold team this morning. Good who had the team's lone RBI, has a good swing and makes consistent contact at the plate.

Nathan Greve (2013, Linn-Mar HS) paced the offense for the Columbia Blue team. Greve had a couple of hits showing off his swing and his bat speed.

Huber up to 86 MPH

Tyler Huber (2013 - Oklahoma City, OK) pitched at 83-86 MPH with his fastball on a chilly morning in Ames.  He's a big bodied RHP with more strength and velocity to come.  He pitched well to both sides of the plate and showed feel for his breaking ball.  He also swung it well from the left side of the plate showing some pop.

Collin Shultice (2014 - Ankeny HS) pitched well at 83-84 MPH with his fastball with a quick arm action.  

Orange Team Shuts down Col. Blue

Cayton Wallace (2013, Assumption HS) had a couple of hits in this morning's game for the Orange team. Wallace was on base all 3 times he came up collected 2 RBI's, makes consistent contact at the plate, and has good baseball instincts.

Matthew Ulrich (2013, Bettendorf HS) had a double in the game including 2 RBI's to help pace the offense for the Orange team. Ulrich has a large projectable frame with pop in his bat. Ulrich is a Three Rivers CC Commit.

Justin Hill (2013, Bettendorf HS) pitched 5 innings for the Orange team this morning. Hill struck out 9 while walking 2 and allowing 0 runs on 2 hits. Hill had his fastball up to 82MPH with it sitting at 79-81mph with his curveball at 67mph. Hill attacks hitters on the mound, has a plan, mixes his pitches well, and pitches from a 3/4 arm slot. Hill is a Southeastern CC Commit.

Devon Harms (2013, Fort Dodge HS) had a couple of hits for the Columbia Blue team to pace their offense this morning. Harms makes consistent contact at the plate and has a good swing path.



Franko's Triple wins it for Royal

Tyler Franko (2013, East HS) had one hit in the game but it was a bases clearing triple to give the Royal team an 8-6 victory. Franko makes consistent good contact at the plate and hits to all fields.

Jordan Baughman (2013, Chariton HS) also had a couple of hits in the game for the Royal team. Baughman has good plate coverage while batting and goes with the pitch well.

Jacob Harriott (2013, Xavier HS) had 2 doubles in the game for the White team this afternoon. Harriott has pop in his bat with a good swing and shows bat speed

Bryce Grimm (2014, Xavier HS) also had a couple of hits in the game for the White team including a double. Grimm has good speed on the bases and is a leadoff type hitter.

Joey Cardamon (2015, Bettendorf HS) also had a couple of hits in the game for the White team. Cardamon has a big strong build with power potential, and makes line drive contact when he centers up the ball.

Johnson Collects 3 hits for White Team

Matthew Johnson (2013, Ankeny HS) had 3 hits in the game this afternoon for the White team. Johnson is an aggressive hitter with a sound appraoch at the plate and makes good consistent contact. Johnson is a South Dakota State Commit.

Keaton McKinney (2014, Ankeny HS) had a couple of hits in the game for the White team as well. McKinney has good bat speed, with pop in his bat. McKinney is a Arkansas Commit.

Alex Beals (2013, Bettendorf HS) had an RBI double in the game for the Green team to help pace thier offense. Beals is an aggressive hitter at the plate, is a line drive contact hitter that goes gap to gap well.

Tyler Franko (2013, East HS) had a Home Run in the game for the Royal team this morning. Franko has good bat speed with good extension at the plate, and makes line drive contact.

Ryan Lillard (2014, Urbandale HS) had a hit in the game with a couple of RBI's for the Royal team. Lillard has a quick bat with a fluid swing, hits to all fields, and is a Kansas State commit.

Kyle Herrick (2013, ADM Senior HS) pitched 3 scoreless innings for the Royal team. Herrick has good command, attacks hitters, can sink his fastball, and was able to keep the hitters off-balance.

Kolton Smith (2014, South Tama County) had a couple of hits for the White team in the game. Smith has good bat speed with a good swing, has an aggressive approach at the plate and makes contact to all fields.

Adkins with good outing

Tyus Adkins (2014 - Iowa City West HS) pitched well for the Black team throwing 3 innings of no hit ball.  He pounded the strike zone with a 78-81 MPH fastball and threw his off speed stuff for strikes.  Solid young player.

Duncan Snider (2016 - Muscatine HS) showed some promise on the mound pitching steady at 77-80 MPH touching 81 MPH.  He's got a tall long frame with plenty of room to fill.  Snider is still very raw and very young and has a chance to really improve.

Alex Herzog (2016 - Washington HS) had 2 hits for the Black team.  He legged out an infield single early on and lined a single to right field later in the game.  He's an athletic young player with lots of upside!

Troy Weiman (2014 - Davenport Central HS) had a good game scoring 2 runs with a hit and a walk.  Cayton Wallace (2013 - Assumption HS) swung the bat well also adding a hit and a walk of his own.  He showed good bat speed with a line drive swing path.  

Waterman with good outing

Justin Waterman (2013 - Davenport Central HS) threw well in relief going 5 innings allowing 4 hits with 6 strikeouts and 1 walk.  He pitched at 78-82 MPH with his fastball and threw his curveball for strikes.  

Tanner Dallas (2014 - St. Louis, MO) hit a hard double down the left field line in the first inning.  He's a physical player with good bat speed and strength in his swing.  AJ Puk (2013 - Washington HS) hit a double to left center field.  He continues to square the ball up well with pop.  JT Sole 

Field, Crowl with 2 hits for Steel

Winona State signee Taylor Field (2013 - Newton HS) had 2 hits for the Steel Team.  He showed some bat speed and hustled on the bases well.  

Kyle Crowl (2016 - Abraham Lincoln) had 2 hits for the Steel Team.  He shows a good swing path to the ball with some bat speed.  Interesting young player with room to grow.



Wyant, Stickney lead Navy to win

Johnson County CC signee Justin Wyant (2013 - Linn Mar HS) pitched at 84-86 MPH with his fastball and showed a tight slider at 77 MPH.  He's got a loose quick arm action with projectable velocity.  Wyant has shown big improvement with his command of both pitches over the past couple years.

Southeastern CC signee Mitch Stickney (2013 - Linn Mar HS) showed good bat speed and leverage on a hard 2B over the center fielders head.  Later in the game he hit another double this time over the left fielders head.  He also showed good speed running the bases.

Kurtis Rupe (2015 - Ottumwa HS) swung the bat well with 2 hits for the Navy team.  He showed some bat speed with a line drive approach.
