2016 Top Prospects

Noah Prewett  3B - 2016 - Woodland Hills, CA
San Diego

Prewett impressed in every facet of his game throughout the event as he threw a showcase best 94 mph from the outfield, threw 88 across the diamond and also ran a 6.95 60-yard dash. A right-handed hitter, the uncommitted Prewett showed equally as impressive strength in his swing and with his quick hands he was able to drive the ball hard and consistently.

Brock Bell  3B - 2016 - Phoenix, AZ
Cal State Northridge

Bell had a solid weekend all over the field throwing an event best 87 mph across the diamond from first before showing 91 mph from shortstop and then continued to impress as he peaked at 88 mph on the mound. Full of athleticism as evidenced by his workout and 6.92, Bell also showed a quick and direct swing with consistent hard life coming off the barrel.

Jake Sim  OF - 2016 - San Diego, CA

Sim is another player who showed interesting two-way potential as he had a strong showcase on both sides of the ball. After running a 6.79 60-yard dash, Sim threw 88 mph from the outfield where he showed a quick arm action, something he would use to produce a top fastball of 85 mph on the mound. A left-handed hitter, Sim did a nice job of incorporating his lower half into his swing while generating leverage at contact and interesting strength to his pull side.

Keaton Glover  OF - 2016 - Chandler, AZ
Pacific

Currently uncommitted, Glover is full of fast-twitch muscle which is evident by the eye opening 6.54 60-yard dash he showed to open the showcase. He showed the ability to create separation in his right-handed swing with nice carry off the barrel and also threw 88 mph from the outfield where he showcased a quick arm and solid carry to the intended bag.

Isaac Meza  RHP - 2016 - Valencia, CA
Cal State Bakersfield

A strongly built 6-foot-3, 210-pound right-hander, Meza showed some of the biggest velocity on the mound this weekend as he topped out at 87 mph with his fastball from an extended low three-quarter arm slot while showing nice arm speed throughout. He came out attacking hitters with a three pitch mix which included an impressive changeup in the upper-70s that featured late diving life to his arm side.

Matthew Fields  RHP - 2016 - Lakewood, CA
Long Beach State

Fields put not only his ahtleticism on display this weekend but also his two-way potential as he impressed on both sides of the ball. A primary shortstop, Fields ran a 6.92 60-yard dash and showed his arm strength across the diamond and from the outfield. With a smooth right-handed swing Fields was able to create hard line drive contact. On the mound he topped out at 86 mph and showed a curveball at 73 mph.

Julian Caravantes  SS - 2016 - San Diego, CA
Occidental College

Caravantes showed nice defensive actions up the middle and soft hands when picking the ball. A right-handed hitter, Caravantes showed a patient approach in the box while generating natural lift in his swing. He creates bat speed through the zone and shows nice jump off the barrel to all fields.

Ryan Carpenter  OF - 2016 - Tustin, CA
Azusa Pacific/Golden West College

Carpenter put together a nice showcase in all facets of his game, running a 6.95 60-yard dash before showing off his arm strength from the outfield where he topped out at 85 mph with his best throw. He also showed quick hands in his swing from the right side with a short path and nice carry to all parts of the field.

Christopher Collins  3B - 2016 - Chandler, AZ

Standing at 6-foot-3, 235-pounds Collins has a strong and powerfully broad shouldered build and he does a nice job of incorporating that strength into his right-handed swing. Staying simple with his mechanics, Collins is able to repeat them well and did so showing quick hands with hard and loud jump off the barrel to all fields.

Doug Gragg  C - 2016 - Stevenson Ranch, CA

Gragg put together one of most impressive rounds of batting practice throughout the event as he showed off continued strength hitting a home run to each of the three fields. He produces big jump off the barrel with a short and leveraged stroke and also showed the second best throwing velocity from behind the plate at 75 mph.

Stephen Kish  OF - 2016 - Oxnard, CA
Cal State Dominguez Hills

Kish really opened eyes throughout the weekend with his right-handed swing, first during batting practice and then again during live at-bats as he collected a bevy on in game hits. Showing off solid athleticism with his 6.77 60-yard dash Kish showed a short and quick swing with nice strength coming off the barrel when squared up.

Greg Lamb  SS - 2016 - Orange, CA
Sacramento State

Lamb ranked amongst the leaders in every portion of the workout as he ran a 6.99 60-yard dash before showing off big arm strength both from the outfield and across the infield, climbing up to 88 mph from each, putting his athleticism on display with light footwork. A right-handed hitter, Lamb stayed short to the ball and showed the ability to create loud contact when squared up off the barrel.

Michael Lee  RHP - 2016 - Chino, CA
Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College

Standing at 6-foot-3, 195-pounds Lee showed a smooth and repeatable delivery with a quick arm action that helped to produce at fastball up to 85 mph. He's able to generate sinking life to his fastball with his lower release point and showed the ability to throw both his slider and changeup for strikes within the zone.

Chris Martin  SS - 2016 - Rancho Cucamonga, CA
Concordia University (California)

A primary shortstop, the 6-foot-2 switch-hitting Martin impressive defensively both at shortstop where he showed soft hands and quick feet and from behind the plate where he showed repeatable actions and a quick release on his 1.94 pop times. He made solid contact throughout the weekend as well showing a nice feel for the barrel and quick hands from both sides of the plate.

Brent McDonald  RHP - 2016 - Murrieta, CA

With a broad and strongly built 6-foot-1, 195-pound frame McDonald showed smooth and repeatable mechanics on the mound and with his high three-quarter release was able to get his mid-80s fastball, peak at 87 mph, downhill consistently. His curveball shows sharp 11-5 shape with bite and depth and he also flashed some strength in his right-handed swing while showing a consistent feel for the barrel.

Dylan McDowell  1B - 2016 - Riverside, CA
Cal Poly-Pomona

With a strongly built 6-foot-5, 220-pound frame McDowell is able to create solid bat speed from the right side with extension and leverage at contact. He does a nice job of repeating his swing and shows the ability to create interesting carry off the barrel to all fields.

Vicente Ryan Mendoza  C - 2016 - Lake Balboa, CA
Long Beach State

Already committed to Long Beach State, Mendoza showed well both behind the plate, where he showed the best arm strength of 77 mph and also popped the best time of 1.87, and from the outfield where his arm strength was once again on display with a top throw of 85 mph. A left-handed hitter, Mendoza showed nice fluidity in his swing with a short path and consistent pull contact.

Chase Ottofy  OF - 2016 - Las Vegas, NV
Northern Colorado

Like others on this list Ottofy showed off two-way potential throughout the week after showing big arm strength from the outfield, topping at 92 mph with his best throw. He used that same arm strength to produce a fastball up to 86 mph from a long and loose arm action and showed a slider at 74 mph. At 6-foot-2, 180-pounds Ottofy also showed interesting potential with the bat as he created nice line drive contact to the pull side gap when he got the barrel to the ball.

Philip Quartararo  1B - 2016 - Bell Canyon, CA

Quartararo's arm strength is enough to catch your attention as he was up to 88 mph from the outfield and showed an impressive 85 mph from first bat but his right-handed swing may be his loudest tool. Making consistent barreled contact, Quartararo created loud and hard jump to all fields with a simple weight shift through his lower half.

Chase Sandman  LHP - 2016 - Peoria, AZ

Sandman began the weekend by impressing with his actions and arm strength (87 mph) from the outfield before jumping on the mound before taking the mound. Showing off a full four pitch mix, Sandman was able to collect a bevy of strikeouts while running his fastball up to 85 mph from the left side.

Trevor Walker  RHP - 2016 - Chino Hills, CA
Pomona-Pitzer Colleges

Walker proved to be more than effective during his three innings on the mound as he showed a full array of pitches and was able to throw all four offerings for strikes. Up to 84 mph with running life on his fastball, Walker showed a tight, late tilting slider away from right-handed hitters to go with his 12-6 curveball and changeup at 76 mph.

Charles Wear  OF - 2016 - Loma Linda, CA
Cuesta College

After running an impressive 6.82 60-yard dash to begin his weekend, Wear then showed a short and quick arm action from the outfield which he used to throw an impressive 87 mph with accuracy and carry. He also put his contact skills on display from the right side, showing nice rhythm and a feel for the barrel.

Noah Williams  SS - 2016 - La Verne, CA
Uncommitted

A primary shortstop, Williams impressed both up the middle with his footwork and athleticism and from the outfield where he showed solid arm strength (up to 87 mph) with nice carry and accuracy to the bag. Digging in from the right side, Williams also showed a handle for the barrel with squared up contact to all fields.


2017 Top Prospects

Joe De Fina  RHP - 2017 - La Verne, CA
New Mexico

Despite being a rising junior De Fina was able to show some of the top fastball velocity with a high of 86 mph showing a loose and easy arm action from the right side. Working from a high three-quarter slot and generating nice downhill plane, De Fina showed late fading life to his changeup and sharp depth to his curveball while challenging hitters with inner half pitches.

Austin Schell  C - 2017 - Irvine, CA
Valparaiso

Schell turned in one of the top pop times of the event at 1.95 from behind the plate and also impressed with his right-handed swing. Staying short and quick to the ball, Schell showed the ability to back spin the ball to his pull side while consistently getting the barrel to the ball with strength.


Free Agents Top Prospects

Hiroaki Shiraiwa  OF - Free Agents - Neyagawa, OS JPN

Shiraiwa showed sound defensive footwork in the outfield and nice fundamentals all around. A right-handed hitter, Shiraiwa consistently found the barrel both in batting practice and against live pitching as he showed a fluid swing with a nice feel for the barrel.
