2016 Top Prospects

Branden Knorr  RHP - 2016 - Ann Arbor, MI
Marshall

The physically-imposing Knorr stands 6'4" with broad shoulders and an athletic, projectable frame with long levers. He employs that excellent physicality well on the mound, getting up to 86 with his fastball and working 82-86 overall. He struck out 7 of the 9 hitters he faced, overpowering opposing hitters with his power fastball and sharp biting curveball. He projects to throw even harder moving forward and is overall a high-level prospect.

Jonathan Young  SS - 2016 - Batavia, IL
Indiana Wesleyan University

Young worked 82-85 with his fastball, topping at 86, and showing plus deception in his delivery, making his fastball seem much quicker to opposing hitters. His arm is clean with good arm speed, giving him more velocity projection moving forward. He throws both his slider and changeup with the same arm speed and from the same arm slot as his fastball, with the SL showing legitimate tilt and snap; and the CH showing excellent tumbling action with deception.

Liam Heath  RHP - 2016 - Naperville, IL
Uncommitted

Standing 6'3" 175, Heath's physicality suggests significant projection moving forward, and when you combine that projection with his present stuff, the potential is very high. He already works 81-84 with his fastball, touching 85, with explosive life at the plate that misses bats and gets weak contact. His curveball shows good bite with excellent depth; and his changeup is very advanced with lots of deception coming from the good velocity separation and fading action.

Cobi Sabo  3B - 2016 - Homewood, IL
Uncommitted

Sabo had one of the best batting practice sessions of the entire event, showing a consistently quick and strong barrel with bat speed and present strength. He made consistently hard contact to all fields with a good approach and developing power as well. He also showed well defensively in the outfield, fielding cleanly and working through the ball well before showing off quality arm strength with accuracy.

Justin Machado  3B - 2016 - Glenview, IL
Fordham

Machado's college-ready, well-built 6'0" 185 pound build has excellent present strength, and he puts that on display when hitting. His swing is leveraged with quality natural loft, giving him the projection to have some good power at physical maturity. He also shows very smooth actions defensively, with good arm strength and clean hands highlighting his defensive tools.

Kyle Alvarado  SS - 2016 - Bartlett, IL
Coe College

Alvarado showed some of the best timing in his swing of the entire event, consistently being on time when hitting both in batting practice and game settings. His swing has solid natural loft and should produce quality power moving forward. He also showed clean actions with quickness and lateral agility during infield drills, projecting to play up the middle with no problem. He took the mound as well, getting up to 80 MPH on his fastball with heavy life and throwing consistent strikes.

Justin Romic  RHP - 2016 - Winnetka, IL
Uncommitted

Lanky and lean with a projectable frame, Romic already pitches in the 78-81 range, topping at 82 with good projection for more velocity. His fastball shows good life to the arm side, and he can sink it as well when commanded down in the zone. He mixes in a quality 11/5 curveball with good depth and has the ability to throw strikes consistently with both pitches.

J.T. Reed  OF - 2016 - Greenfield, WI
College of Lake County

Reed showed very good hitting tools from both sides of the plate, with a deep coil in his front side to load, then firing forward with excellent hand quickness and overall very good barrel control. He made consistent, line drive contact from both sides of the plate and should grow into some power as well. He also showed well in the outfield with smoothness and athleticism throughout his actions.

Levi Palomo  RHP - 2016 - South Barrington, IL
Uncommitted

Palomo's 6'3' 165 pound frame has excellent room for projection, which when combined with his present arm speed gives him good potential for even more velocity than his present high 70's-low 80's fastball. He gets downhill well from a high 3/4 slot and generates lots of plane to the plate, and complements that heater with a deep 11/5 CB and deceptive, fading CH.

Will Drake  1B - 2016 - Naperville, IL
Uncommitted

Drake offers some of the best power in the entire event, showing a strong, leveraged swing from the right side with excellent present carry off the bat. At 6'3" 175, Drake projects to put on even more strength moving forward as well, giving him outstanding power projection. He's also a very athletic defender at 1B, showing quick feet and smooth overall actions with solid arm strength and very good feel for the position.

Brendan Kates  C - 2016 - Duxbury, MA
Massachusetts

Kates showed quality bat to ball skills with strength off the barrel during batting practice, with a line drive swing plane and good hand speed that results in a high-average potential swing. He extends well through contact and will have some power as well. Behind the plate, he shows quickness side to side with good catch-and-throw mechanics, transferring the ball cleanly and quickly and showing good arm strength.

Chantz Stover  RHP - 2016 - South Bend, IN
Glen Oaks CC

Stover showed good feel for 3 pitches in his outing, with a fastball working down in the zone consistently at 78-81 and getting lots of weak contact as a result. His slider runs so much that it can break bats of left-handed hitters, and he'll also mix in a solid 12/6 CB with good depth. His arm is quick and projects.

2017 Top Prospects

Brett Wicklund  RHP - 2017 - Chicago, IL
Illinois State/Heartland CC

Wicklung was very impressive on the mound and still has lots of room to get better, with the kind of frame and build that projects significantly. His fastball already works 81-84 with sinking action, and he does a great job of pounding the zone to both sides of the plate and generating plane from his near overtop slot. His curveball has 12/6 shape with true hammer potential, and he shows command of the curve as well.

Christopher Zak  RHP - 2017 - Shorewood, WI
Uncommitted

Zak was able to repeat his delivery well throughout his outing, an impressive feat for any pitcher at any level, and he did so with a deceptive, slight crossfire delivery that hid the ball well and made his stuff jump at opposing hitters. His fastball worked in the 79-82 range, topping at 83, showing good pitchability with a quality 3 pitch mix, commanding all 3 pitches and keeping opposing hitters off balance.

Ryan Moritz  SS - 2017 - Omaha, NE
Uncommitted

Moritz really shined during defensive workouts, showing off excellent range to both sides with quick feet and overall smooth footwork to go along with easy fielding actions with smoothness and fluidity, and capping it off with a strong, accurate arm highlighted by a quick release. He also hit well, showing good bat speed and being very quick to the ball with a short hand path. He has some strength off the barrel with projectable power.

Casey Barr  RHP - 2017 - Chicago, IL
Bates College

With a large frame highlighted by broad shoulders, Barr has high-level physical projection that should lead to an uptick in his already good stuff. With a fastball that worked consistently in the high 70's, Barr moved the FB around to all 4 quadrants of the strike zone with natural heaviness that makes it hard to square up. He mixed in a a quality, biting 11/5 curveball and a fading changeup, showing command of both off speed pitches.

Colin Donahue  C - 2017 - Carmel, IN
DePauw

Donahue was one of the better catchers in attendance, showing solid athleticism throughout his actions behind the plate, moving well side-to-side and exploding through well when throwing down to 2B. He shows solid arm strength with good on-bag accuracy as well. He shows good power to the pull field during batting practice, with solid feel for the barrel and consistent mechanics, giving him upside as a two-way catcher moving forward.

Thomas Larson  OF - 2017 - Joliet, IL
Parkland College

At 6'1" 180, Larson is already built well with good present strength throughout his body. He put that strength on display by hitting a long home run to the pull field during game action, combining solid bat speed with good leverage. He also fielded cleanly in the outfield during drills, consistently working through the ball and showing smoothness in his gather and eventual release. He was also effective on the mound, getting up to 78 and showing deception from a crossfire release, mixing in a sharp tilting slider as well.

2018 Top Prospects

Thaddeus Huber  RHP - 2018 - Kearney, NE
Allen County CC

Huber showed stuff and pitchability on the mound well beyond his 2018 age, getting up to 85 with his fastball and working in the low 80's. His arm action is clean and quick, and he has the ability to sink his fastball in the lower quadrants of the strike zone as well. His curveball showed 12/6 shape with quality spin and depth, and he flashed feel for his change up with some fading action to round out his arsenal.

2019 Top Prospects

Sean Swenson  3B - 2019 - Indianapolis, IN
Akron

The only 2019 in this event, Swenson showed advanced hitting tools to go along with advanced strength throughout his body. His swing path is very good, with natural loft to go along with barrel control, and his overall mechanics have smoothness and fluidity. With more and more experience, he projects to be a quality hitter for average as well as power.
