Below is a look at how some of the top pitching staffs in the nation have fared in ERA, Strikeouts per 9 innings and Walks per 9 innings plus a look at their Strength of Schedule so far.

Team ERA Rank SO Rank BB Rank SOS
Florida 14 30 1 15
Virginia 13 2 17 54
Vandy 16 4 67 126
UCLA 3 1 64 81
Georgia Tech 4 10 97 56
Cal St. Fullerton 20 57 4 7
East Carolina 1 41 11 124

My sourse for ERA, SO and Walks is NCAA.com through Tuesdays games and the SOS came from Boydsworld.com's ISR #'s which were updated on 3/24/11.

Based on this information it would appear that Virginia and Florida would be in a tie for the top spot, with the other five not far behind. Florida is definitely making people swing the bat this year and Virginia, Vandy and UCLA are really sitting batters down at a high rate.

Danny Hultzen is leading the nation with 62 strikeouts in 34.3 innings pitched for an average of 16.27 per 9 innings, nearly 3 SO per 9 innings ahead of the #2 spot, Curtis Young of Alabama State.

Right now, I'd have Florida, Vanderbilt and Virginia in my elite category.

Cal State Fullerton, UCLA East Carolina, Georgia Tech and Texas A&M in my "very good" category.

Big weekend for Vandy, I am interested to see what happens in the Arkansas series, I still think out of your three elite staffs, Vandy may have the most to prove. They are spectacular no doubt, but just have not had to perform against the same level of competition as UVA and especially Florida.
