Weekly power poll for Div. 1A baseball teams in the state of Alabama
It is hard to tell where a team stands after week 1 since so many teams play weaker opponents to start the year. Really impressed with Alabama St. and how they hung in against Bama tonight. That gives them a bump in the initial standings over some teams that still have a lot to prove.
1. Auburn (3-1).. Defeated Arkansas St. (12-5), Defeated UAB (6-0), Defeated Jacksonville St. (9-4), Lost to Virginia (13-2)
2. Alabama (4-0).. Defeated Alcorn St. (11-0, 5-1, 8-1), Defeated Alabama St. (11-7)
3. Jacksonville St. (0-1).. Lost to Auburn (9-4)
4. Troy (4-0).. Defeated High Point (17-3, 6-1, 8-7, 5-3)
5. Samford (4-0).. Defeated Western Illinois (16-8, 4-0, 18-1), Defeated Alabama A&M (14-1)
6. Alabama St. (0-1).. Lost to Alabama (11-7)
7. South Alabama (4-0).. Defeated Tennessee-Martin (6-1, 4-3, 11-10), Defeated Jackson St. (6-3)
8. UAB (1-3).. Defeated Arkansas St. (5-3), Lost to Virginia (6-4), Lost to Auburn (6-0), Lost to Kennesaw St. (3-1)
9. Alabama A&M (0-1).. Lost to Samford (14-1)

Alabama State did not "hang in" with Alabama yesterday. With a 10 run lead Gaspard pulled almost the entire field and put in Sutherland, who is probably the worst pitcher on the roster right now who is not being redshirted. He and Jay Shaw are unlikely to see game action again until we play Mississippi Valley, if at all
The fact alone that you have USA beneath Alabama State on your "power poll" proves that you need to take off your purple and orange goggles.

It's a week 1 power poll and I am just rewarding Alabama St. for being able to score 7 runs on any Bama pitcher. Everyone knows Alabama St. and A&M will be battling for the cellar.
