WALNUT CREEK, Calif. — STANFORD’s Mark Appel, UCLA’s Jeff Gelalich, ARIZONA’s Kurt Heyer and OREGON’s Alex Keudell are among the 30 semifinalists for the 2012 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award, as announced by USA Baseball on Tuesday.

Keudell is the Friday-night starter for an Oregon team that was ranked as high as No. 5 by Baseball America and No. 1 by Collegiate Baseball this season.

The list of 30 semifinalists will be sent to a voting body consisting of past USA Baseball National Team coaches and press officers, members of media that closely follow college baseball, select professional baseball personnel and current USA Baseball staff, representing a group of more than 200 voters in total.

Fans can vote for their favorite semifinalist starting Tuesday, May 29 at GoldenSpikesAward.com. As part of the selection process all voters will be asked to choose three players from the list of 30 names. On Tuesday, June 5, USA Baseball will announce the three finalists, and voting will once again commence that same day. Fans have until Friday, June 15 at 2 p.m. PT to vote for the winner.
