The injury to Cory, while devastating is not the first in college sports nor will it be the last. My question is why there is no or not enough insurance provided by the institution or NCAA to cover the long-term health care costs of catastrophic injuries. Why do families of permanently impaired athletes have to rely on fund raising to possibly prevent household bankruptcy?

ASU74, thanks for posting this article. I'd love to find a source showing what the standard coverage is for athletes regarding catasrophic injuries. At a minimum, one would think that the University would make sure players that suffer these types of injuries don't have to worry about money.

BB,
One would think...but it does not seem the case.

ASU did give Cory a full scholarship so he could complete his education at no charge.

Kendall....would you like to weigh in on this topic?
