Just saw this over at the Rivals board and thought folks here might enjoy the link.

It appears that Caltech in Pasadena, a D3 school known primarily for rocket science and high-tech geekery, also has a few athletic teams, but none is very good. They are known as the Beavers (think dam-building engineers) and wear orange and black, like Pacific Northwest Beavers do. But that's whre the similarity ends. Whereas Oregon State has become a national power in D1 baseball over the last ten years, Caltech just recently won their first baseball game in 229 tries. Their last win was February 15, 2003. (Of course, in their next game, they lost to Oregon Tech Owls 22-3, so here comes the next string of losses for the Beavers.)

Caltech's men's basketball team ended a 310-game conference losing streak in 2011, so the baseball squad was not alone in athletic futility. Still, ya gotta hand it to the kids playing there. They are obviously playing for love of the game, as their real interest is in academics. Go Beavers!

Caltech Beavers and OSU Beavers have something in common... Pedro Duarte, a member of OSU's first baseball team (1893... no, 1907 is not the true start of OSU baseball), came to OSU from Throop Academy... the school that eventually became Caltech. A star from our first team also starred at Caltech.
