DM, just to add to Conforto's portfolio, he was also selected to play for the US National Team this summer. Thanks for the excellent info.

From OSU's webpages....
  • Pat Casey needs two wins to tie Jack Riley (613) for the most as the Beavers’ head coach.
  • OSU’s pitchers rank second in the Pac-12 with 158 strikeouts in league games. Oregon has 166 in three more league contests.
  • Michael Conforto is the lone Pac-12 player to rank in the top 10 in the league in average, home runs and RBI. Conforto is ninth in average (.354), tied for first in home runs (11) and first in RBI (63).
Looks pretty sure that Pat Casey will tie and break Jack Riley's win record this season. It's fitting that he will do it either against Wazzu, at Bailey-Brayton, or against the Ducks at Goss-Coleman. Maybe tie in Pullman and surpass in Corvallis.

The strikeout number was a bit of a surprise to me. Should be an interesting matchup when the Ducks come to Corvallis.

I don't know when the last time the Pac had a triple-crown winner, but this is probably the first time ever a Beaver is in contention for it. Conforto would have to go about 10 for 10 to come close to the batting average leader, who is about 30 pts ahead of him, and he is second in homers now, one back of the leader. But his RBI total (63) is 11 more than the next guy on the chart. He's tops in SLG (.608) , 8th in OBP, and 4th in total bases. And this is a freshman.

Two very interesting umpiring calls today in the WSU/OSU game. These calls may not have made a difference to the final game results, but I sure would have liked to have seen Casey a little more invovled then he was.

RD, I listened to most of the Duck's game. I was suprised it was as close as it was, but was waiting for the Ducks to put it away and they waited until the 9th to do so. Horton probably figures they need somebody other than Sherfy in the regionals and supers if they advance.

I continue to be impressed with Horton and the Ducks this year. I watched Casey sit in the dugout today and he just didn't really seem to care. With both of the bad calls, I was expecting him to be in the umpire's face and even push it to ejection. I still think this is his last year and he is expecting Lees and the other Coaches to step up. I don't think Lees or Yeskie are capable.

Oh well, hopefully they can win tomorrow's game and give the Ducks a good series. If you look at the Ducks and Beavers, they are about as evenly matched talent wise as you can find. They both have three very good starters. However, Sherfy might be the best closer in the Country. Bryant and the Beaver's relief pitchers have really not performed well this year. The Civil War series will probably come down to the team that has the best pitchers from the 6th through the 9th innings.

BB- Sorry to hear about what happened in wazzu land. Wazzu is dangerous with the bats. I was really hoping that the beavs would have a shot at the pac 12 title via civil war. Will really put a damper on the upcoming series. Hopefully your guys can salvage the series to at least challenge for two regional hostings in Oregon. That would have.. could? Be pretty cool. Have to wait and see. Oh, were you responsible for the beaver feed on our (the canyon weekly) fb page.. lol. That was hilarious. Thanks, though, and my wife will probably ask what the heck that is all about.
Oh, the seattle game was crazy. I figured we would lose, but the baseball gods for some reason keep allowing us to win. 40 wins baby. Yeah!!!!

Parker seemed to be a bit distracted and later apologized for also giving the wrong score. He kept saying the score was 7-6, not 7-5 in the bottom of the 9th.

Dodger Matt wrote:
Why is Parker saying Claussen scored from second on an infield groundout? GameTracker shows Claussen at third and 7-4 score, not 7-5.

Way to much coaching going on with the the Beaver's pitching staff. They should have just kept Dan Child in the game and let him finish. Yeskie and Casey got lucky this time, but they need to have some trust and quit overcoaching.

Been way to busy this week with work and interviewing for a new job. Looks like I have missed some good Duck and Beaver ribbing. RD, you and your little brother, Duck 666, or whatever his name is are holding your own. I can't wait to get to Goss Stadium tomorrow to watch the game. It's also great to see another Beaver, Desert Beaver, in the forum. I tried to google and see what a Desert Beaver might look like, but had no luck. We had a lengthy discussion last year about Beaver Nation and all of the Beaver demographics out there - Florida Beavers, Southern Beavers, Oregon Beavers, Conner Beavers, Borg Beavers, Hawaii Beavers, Dodger Beavers, and more. However, I must defer to Florida Beaver (FB), who is the expert of all Beaver things.

May the best team win!

Great idea ASU74. So, I have a wager to RiverDuck and Duck 666 (can't remember your name, sorry). If the Beavers win the Series, I have a couple of OSU T-shirts I'll send you and expect that you wear them and post a picture of you wearing them. If the Ducks win, I have some underwear with green trim and yellow streaks (Duck Colors) that I will wear. I'm also happy to post a picture to attest to the fact that I followed through with my bet. What's you say?

It has really been fun this year being a fly on the wall listening to all the posturing between the Beaver fans and the Duck fan(s). Now may be the time for both sides to "man up".

A few years ago I made a wager with a Razorback friend of mine. The bet was simple. If ASU won the series she had to wear an ASU shirt & hat during a game at Baum. If Arkansas won, I had to do the same. ASU lost, and I had to wear the Razorback gear at the next game I went to in Packard, which was the Tempe Regional.

The proof that the wager was fulfilled was a photo.

I propose that if the Ducks win this series, that the OSU fans purchase a Duck hat & shirt and wear it at their next home game & the same goes for Duck fans(s). If you loose the series you have to purchase & wear Beaver gear and wear it at your next home game.

The proof that each sides wager is fulfilled are the photos to be posted here on Perfect Game.

If you wish to participate all you have to do is post on this thread that you accept!

Whatch say Oregonians?

Silly RiverDuck. I'm loving your confidence right now. Are you still going wine tasing this weekend and possibly missing a historic feat by your Duckies? If you are brave enough to venture to Corvallis on Friday, come on by Section 9 and we we will show you some good old Beaver hospitality.

I guess what I should have said is that the beavs have about as good a chance to be a 1 seed as their chance to to not be in a regional.

FB, I appreciate the lesson on the Desert Beaver. I knew I could count on your expertise and expert teaching abilitity. And thanks for the reminder about the article in the 1997 Oregon Beaver Quarterly.

I had to go up to my attic to find my Oregon Beaver Quarterly archives. As I skimmed through various editions and articles, I was overwhelmed with emotions. I ran across two of my favorite articles: " Eat a Beaver, Save a Tree." This was an article about the importance of protecting our forests. Another article that brought tears to my eyes was titled: " Shave Your Beaver to Protect from Desease." I have first-hand knowledege with shaved beavers, but I have found that not all Beavers have access to razors and that the government should either give out free razors or should open up "Clinics" for Beavers than can't afford razors or that need assistance with personal hygene.

BB,

If I recall the information in the 1997 Oregon Beaver Quarterly report from the June issue correctly, a Desert Beaver is unusually dry and can often be found with a viperidae (look it up) under the tail. However, during times of heavy rains, the Desert Beaver can flood, causing erosion and in some instances, cause death to the unwary traveler. Caution should ALWAYS be used when playing with Desert Beavers.

Section G, Row D-- just right above the where the outfield turf starts on the third base line. I hope your child feels well enough for the game. I think my daughter say her first Beaver sporting event when she was a week old. Now, she is a Beaver Freshman.

On a side note, one of her highschool advisors suggested that she go to UO. Jokingly, she told the advisor that her Daddy thinks UO is for slow kids and besides, he wouldn't pay for her to go there. The advisor called me at work and basically told me that he thought I was an awful parent and that a good liberal education would do her some good. I told him that I was fine with the liberal arts education, but that I had a problem with the socialist professors that taught the liberal arts education.

Hello everyone. I know, it's been awhile.

Where have I been, you ask? Well, let me tell you. I joined the United States Navy in Novemeber and left for basic training in March. I graduated basic training on May 11th. I am now at Hospital Corpsman (Medic) A-School in San Antonio, Texas.

I watched the game on Gametracker last night, was dissappointed I couldn't find the radio stream online.

I missed all of the Pac-12 conference play this year except for last weekend againts Washington State and this weekend against Oregon.

I know OM said Schultz was his MVP for the game, but I have to give it to Ryan Barnes. Clutch hit after clutch hit from that guy last night. Schultz was a close second though.

Anyways, it's good to be back and I hope the Beavers get the sweep this weekend.

Also... congratulation to Coach Pat Casey on 614. Amazing accomplishment.
