What happened to Rowdy? Rowdy, you should be feeling much better about the season. You and ASU74 now have some teams to be rooting for!

Dodger Matt wrote:
Day three
  • Oregon State 5, UCLA 2. In a season where Ben Wetzler (1-1), last year’s ace, has been limited in terms of starts and pitch counts, the junior southpaw has slowly been increasing his outings and went seven full innings today, long enough to be the pitcher of record and notch his first win of 2013. He limited the Bruins to 5 hits and 1 run, a solo home run by Brett Urabe, which was apparently the freshman left fielder’s first hit as a UCLA Bruin. OSU had 11 hits overall, two each by Davis, Conforto, and Barnes. Kevin Kramer had two hits for the Bruins. Control pitcher Grant Watson lost a measure of control today, giving up 2 walks, 5 hits, and 4 runs (all earned) over 3.1 IP, and he lost only his second game in his UCLA career (13-2). The win gave the Beavers their third consecutive series victory over the Bruins, a first for Oregon State. OSU also improved to 11-6 in its last 17 games at UCLA, dating back to 2005.
    Oregon State wins series 2-1.

  • Oregon 16, Arizona State 3. The Ducks came out swinging today, scoring early and often. They scored 2 in the 1st on a walk, single, and double, then scored 4 in the 3rd on a walk, two singles, and a two-run homer by Josh Graham. But the big blow came in the 8th as the Ducks doubled their score with 8 two-out runs on seven singles, two walks, and a hit batsman. Four Ducks had 3 RBIs, including Scott Heineman and Aaron Payne, who also had four hits apiece. Cole Irvin pitched 7 innings and gave up 3 earned runs and 6 hits for the win. SS Drew Stankiewicz was 2 for 3 with 1 RBI for ASU.
    Arizona State wins series 2-1.

  • Arizona 5, California 4. After starting off 0-6 in conference play after getting swept by Oregon State and Oregon, the Wildcats have leveled off at .500 with sweeps of their own over Utah last week and Cal this week. The Golden Bears tied the game at 2 apiece with a wo-run 6th, but the Cats etched three single runs over the next three innings and held off a 2-run rally in the 9th to escape with a one-run win. Arizona outhit Cal 15 to 10. Ryan Koziol and Brandon Dixon had 3 hits and 1 RBI each for the Cats. Brenden Farney led the Bears with 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Tyler Crawford pitched 5.1 innings for the win. Cal threw six pitchers at the Cats, none longer than 2.1 innings.
    Arizona sweeps series 3-0.

  • USC 7, Stanford 6. USC scored 3 runs in 2nd to lead 3-1, then broke a 3-3 tie by scoring 3 more in the 5th. Stanford scored three of their own to tie the game again in the 8th at 6, but the Trojans plated the go-ahead run in the bottom of the 8th. Nursing a 7-6 lead in the 9th, USC retired the first two batters, but allowed two singles to put the tying run in scoring position. But Brett Doran popped up to end the threat. Kyle Twomey pitched six innings for the Trojans, limiting the Cardinal to 3 runs (2 earned). Fellow Kyle Davis pitched the final three innings for the win, also allowing 3 runs (all earned). Adam Landecker was 1 for 5 with 2 RBIs for USC. Austin Wilson led the Cardinal with a 2 for 4, 2 RBI effort. Stanford used six pitchers, none longer than 2.2 innings.
    Stanford wins series 2-1.

  • Washington State 5, Utah 0. The Cougars salvage one game from the series thanks to a complete game shutout performance from Redshirt sophomore Scott Simon (2-0), who walked one, struck out seven, and scattered five hits over nine innings. FR centerfielder Austin Pernell was 3 for 4 with 1 RBI for the cougars. Tyler Relf was 2 for 3 for the Utes.
    Utah wins series 2-1.

  • Pepperdine 4, Washington 1. Pepperdine starter Aaron Brown (3-1) went six and two-thirds innings, allowing only an unearned run on six hits, to get the win. Brown also hit a home run, a two-out solo shot in the 2nd inning. That was his first hit of the season (in his sixth atbat). SO infielder Austin Davidson also hit a homer for the Waves, a two-run shot in the 7th. UW starter Trevor Dunlap (1-2) took the loss, allowing one run on three hits in his three innings of work. Despite losing the series, the Huskies played much better than expected and could easily have won the series with a little luck yesterday.
    Pepperdine wins series 2-1.

DM, as always, thanks for managing this activity and being a leader on this PG Board.

I'm thinking I'm better at predicting non-PAC 12 conferences. Over on the Rivals Board, for SEC predictions, even with finishing last in week four, I'm still in third place. I did, however, finish first in week 3.

DM, when you are doing predictions on the Rivals site, how many people were making predictions? Seems like you have a pretty good number of participants compared to the Rival days.

Dodger Matt wrote:
Subtotals after four weeks
Here are the total scores and averages for the first four weeks. The breaks separating the scores are by number of weeks participating: 4, 3, 2, and 1. Just so everyone is aware, you can’t win the top prize if you miss more than two weeks. (Well, I can work some statistical prestidigitation and add some low scores for you if you still want a chance for the crown. Just don’t want to get into that now.)

Just a fan of Arkansas, other than the fact it produced Bill Clinton. You have to love that fathers walk their sons to school in Arkansas because they are both in the same grade. Also, I love that people that drive pickup trucks in Arkansas have more curtains in their pickups than in their houses.

Just having a little fun with you hogfan4life. As I mentioned in a prior post, I spent some time at at Walmart U. learning their logistics systems and really enjoyed the Arkansas people. I found the area and the people to be very similar to the mid-Wilamette Valley in Oregon.

Are OR Beavers any friendlier?

I never met an Oregon beaver that would bite. Now somtimes what is ATTACHED to the beaver will bite, but I never acually met a beaver face to face that acually had teeth.

When I hear the word Utes, I think of the movie, "My Cousin Vinnie" when Joe Pesci was not able to pronounce the word Youths.

Sorry for the diversion.

And, great throw by Rodriquez to end the inning.

Ya, the guy that got caught stealing. Didn't look even remotely close to being out.

DM, not sure what's up with guy in the dress. Looks like he is trying to land a gig on Dancing with the Stars.

You mean that caught stealing at second? He looked safe to me.

Bob, or anyone: What is the story with that black guy in the white dress shirt dancing? Looks like a scene from the fifties, and I've seen it a number of times in between innings. Confused
