Led versus lead. "Lead" (pronounced /led/) is a metal. Alchemists tried to to turn lead into gold. As a metal, it is referred to as "plumbum". If you look at battery notices, you might see a battery symbol with the letters "Pb" over it, which indicates a lead-acid battery. Plumbum also carries over into English in the words plumber (a guy who uses LEAD pipes) and a "plumb line" (that plumbers use to determine a perpendicular line). Lead (pronounced /leed/ is the infintive form of the verb, to lead. "Leaders lead today. Yesterday, leaders led.

Note: Led Zeppelin, like Def Leppard, is an intentional misspelling. If it were to be construed as an intentional spelling, one would have to understand that some one was pulling the zeppelin by a string attached to its nose; that it would be a "led" zeppelin.

RD, we love you. The forum wouldn't be the same without you. You are a real sport to put up with us Beavers. If we didn't like you, we wouldn't spend as much time trying to get under your tail feathers.

With this said, I'm reminded of the soccer movie, "Kicking and Screaming," with Will Ferrell, Mike Ditka, and Robert Duvall. In the movie, Mike Ditka lived next door to Robert Duvall. Duvall played the father of Will Ferrill, a kid's soccer coach. Duvall was also a kid's soccer coach and father and son competed against each other. Ditka helped Ferrell coach his son's soccer team. Ditka and Duvall never got along as neighbors and would do whatever possible to make each other miserable. Toward the end of the movie, when Ferrill's team beat Duvall's team and they were having a BBQ at Duvall's house to celebrate, Will Ferrill asked Mike Ditka if he would stop blowing leaves over into Duvall's backyard. Ditka said: "It's what I do. My joy in life is to make Duvall as miserable as possible."

As a Beaver, my role in life is to dislike the Ducks and whenever possible, make their life miserable. RD, it's nothing personal.

As an owner of a paper.. and having to deal with that crap on a weekly basis. Please.. this is baseball, not a paper that is judged by grammatical errors.. turn off our contributors. Pointing out grammatical errors is tacky and a disgrace to all. Last thing we need is a high school teacher telling us about our shortcomings when in comes to communicating in print. So, for the love of god, quit trying to hold up Mr. Bullokar.

Yeah.. I think whoever wrote that, was hurried, or could care less. The nice thing about comprehension is spelling is not always the end all. I am not supporting the communication, but did understand. I appreciate contributions from the community, and hope, that whoever commented is not turned off by someone in the peanut gallery who thinks grammar is above tact. Just saying. I know you guys hate me anyway, but chill out.

I'm kind of feeling like Kareem Abdu-Jabbar, known at the time as Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor, Jr. when the NCAA outlawed stuffing the basketball because Alcindor was so dominant that he couldn't be stopped. Perhaps, we should outlaw the use of sweeps and call it the BeaverBob No Sweeps Rule.

20.0 Florida Beaver
18.0 SouthernBeaver

29 is the highest weekly total recorded (this year). Just so everyone understands what will most likely happen next year, and this is not a reaction against BeaverBob's results, but I have been contemplating reducing the win total for sweeps from 6 points to 5 points.

Also of note: BeaverBob moved from number 8 in the overall standings to number 3, one of the greatest single-week jumps I've seen.

Ah hell. Watch out Beaver fans!!!!! RD is looking to make a move on some BEAVER!!!! I just knew he'd eventually see the light at the end of the beaver and come running. And as an aside, I was lucky enough, not only to be a Florida Beaver this week, but to be right above a Southern Beaver. Now how is that for good fortune. I suppose, in two weeks when the uglies play an OOC weekend, the percentages will acurately show who is actually in the #1 spot in the PAC12.

This is so DAM exciting!

Good catch OM. What a shy group. I can't believe nobody else noticed my snafu sooner.

I wonder if my error has to do with my disgust that such as great university as Stanford would choose a color for their "mascot." This Country has become way to politically correct.

LSU Blake, you are learning about us Pac 12 folks, especially us Oregon folks. In general, we don't care much or think much about the California schools. However, us OSU Beavers, true Beavers that is, hate the Oregon Ducks - first and foremost. I will always root against the Ducks, regardless of sport. In fact, I dislike the Oregon Ducks so much that if needed, I would prefer to see the Beavers lose if it meant a negative consequence for the Ducks.

A close second in hatred is the Washington Huskies. Why? Because they are probably more arrogant than the Ducks. How can such university with such resources, be so inept in most sports programs.

As the WSU Cougars are the only other land grant university in the NW, most Beavers root for the Cougars and can relate to the Cougars.

Day two
  • Oregon State 5, Cal 0. Andrew Moore (9-1) pitched a complete game, two-hit shutout as the Beavers took game two in front of 3053 sunburned fans, including Dodger Matt, Beaver Bob, OpihiMan, and Dick Day. Moore faced two over the minimum, as he walked one, hit another, and gave up two singles, but also benefitted from three OSU double plays. “Andrew was excellent today,” Oregon State head coach Pat Casey said, “and so was the cheering and game commentary from section 9, row 8.” Dylan Davis was 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs, and Andy Peterson was 3 for 5 and accounted for the other two RBIs.
    Oregon State leads series 2-0.

  • Oregon 6, Washington State 3. Cole Irvin (9-2) pitched 7.0 innings and scattered 6 hits and 3 runs (2 earned) for the win. JJ Altobelli was 3 for 4 with 1 RBI to lead the Ducks, and Ryon Healy blasted his 10th homer, a solo shot in the 1st.
    Oregon leads series 2-0.

  • Stanford 9, Arizona State 8. (11 innings) ASU held a 7-4 lead after 6 innings, but Stanford’s Austin Wilson blasted a two-out three-run homer in the 7th to tie it at 7and take the game into extra innings. FR Ryan Burr in the 11th got a 3-2 flyout, then walked the next three batters before allowing Brian Ragira to single in two on a 3-2 pitch. In the bottom of the 11th, ASU scored one and loaded the bases. With two out, Kasey Coffman hit the first pitch he saw to second baseman Danny Diekroger, who bobbled the ball but made the play at first to end the game and prevent the tying run from scoring.
    Stanford leads series 2-0.

  • Washington 2, Arizona 1. Washington continues to surprise by taking game two and clinching a series win over the defending national champions. Austin Voth (5-5) scattered 7 hits and 1 run over 7.2 innings for the win. Brian Wolfe was 2 for 4 with 1 RBI for the Huskies. Zach Gibbons was 2 for 3 for the Cats.
    Washington leads series 2-0.

  • UCLA 5, Utah 4. Nick Vander Tuig (8-3) allowed 6 hits and two runs over 6.2 innings to defeat the Utes for a second day. Pat Valaika was 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Bruins. TJ Bennett was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs for Utah.
    UCLA leads series 2-0.

  • TCU 3, USC 0. The Trojans stranded five runners in scoring position and seven runners total. In the top of the sixth, USC starter Kyle Twomey hit Derek Odell, who began to charge the mound, and both benches cleared. Both Odell and Twomey were ejected from the game. USC brought the tying run to the plate in both the seventh and eight innings, but each time the Horned Frogs were able to turn an inning-ending double play.
    TCU wins series 2-1.
