I like Auburn over Virginia as well. UVA looks like they are throwing their #2 Saturday.

Looks pretty good for a preseason projection. Is it just me or does every projection have AU in Tallahassee every year?

Looking forward to Jax St. at Auburn. Looking for AU to throw a lot of young arms as well as continuing to get comfortable with the new bats.

AU had over 11,000 for the weekend which is the largest for opening day weekend in AU history. Did anyone catch how dismal UF attendance was being the #1 team in the land combined with such nice weather... don't understand it

Alabama State Power Poll (Week 1)

Weekly power poll for Div. 1A baseball teams in the state of Alabama
It is hard to tell where a team stands after week 1 since so many teams play weaker opponents to start the year. Really impressed with Alabama St. and how they hung in against Bama tonight. That gives them a bump in the initial standings over some teams that still have a lot to prove.

1. Auburn (3-1).. Defeated Arkansas St. (12-5), Defeated UAB (6-0), Defeated Jacksonville St. (9-4), Lost to Virginia (13-2)
2. Alabama (4-0).. Defeated Alcorn St. (11-0, 5-1, 8-1), Defeated Alabama St. (11-7)
3. Jacksonville St. (0-1).. Lost to Auburn (9-4)
4. Troy (4-0).. Defeated High Point (17-3, 6-1, 8-7, 5-3)
5. Samford (4-0).. Defeated Western Illinois (16-8, 4-0, 18-1), Defeated Alabama A&M (14-1)
6. Alabama St. (0-1).. Lost to Alabama (11-7)
7. South Alabama (4-0).. Defeated Tennessee-Martin (6-1, 4-3, 11-10), Defeated Jackson St. (6-3)
8. UAB (1-3).. Defeated Arkansas St. (5-3), Lost to Virginia (6-4), Lost to Auburn (6-0), Lost to Kennesaw St. (3-1)

SEC Week 1 Power Poll

AUGreenMonster
AUGreenMonster
Through Tuesday
Still a lot of question marks after week 1 especially in the West. The East seems to be more divided than before with Vandy and Fla getting quality wins and Kentucky and Georgia with dismal losses. The West seems more up for grabs than before. No team in the West has a marquee win to hang their hat on yet but showed a lot of promise with a lot of solid young arms and steady bats. Here are my Week 1 Power standings

East

1. Vanderbilt (4-0) Defeated San Diego X3, San Diego St.
2. Florida (4-0) Defeated South Florida X3, Florida Atlantic
3. South Carolina (3-0) Defeated Santa Clara X3
4. Tennessee (2-1) Took 2 of 3 from UW-Milwaukee
5. Kentucky (1-3) Defeated Moorehead St., Lost to Miami (OH), Lost to Marshall, Lost to College of Charleston
6. Georgia (0-3) Lost to Stetson X3

West

1. LSU (4-0) Defeated Wake Forest X3, Defeated New Orleans
2. Auburn (3-1) Defeated Arkansas St., Defeated UAB, Defeated Jacksonville St., Lost to Virginia
3. Arkansas (3-0) Defeated Delaware St. X3
4. Alabama (4-0) Defeated Alcorn St. X3, Defeated Alabama St.
5. Ole Miss. (4-0) Defeated Wright St. X3, Defeated Memphis
6. Miss. St. (5-0) Defeated Akron X2, Defeated Lamar X2, Defeated Northwestern St.

It's a week 1 power poll and I am just rewarding Alabama St. for being able to score 7 runs on any Bama pitcher. Everyone knows Alabama St. and A&M will be battling for the cellar.

I will be doing a weekly look at each team's ace with their season statistics. If you see your team and you think your ace is someone different than I have for your team please let me know. I went off statistics look at the weekend starters so far. As far as a top 4 pitchers based purely on statistics and nothing else (even competition):
1. Brian Johnson UF
2. Chris Stratton MSU
3. Derrick Varnadore AU
4. Steven Gruver UT

I know a lot will say look at the frosh at UF(his stats are nasty as well) but only one pitcher from each team will be represented.

I'm not sure where you get "some" bad losses for Auburn considering they have lost 2 games and one was to top 15 UVA but anyways..the west is definitely wide open

Haha First off.. the top 8 is where I think the teams will stand at the end of the season.. secondly, what has Arkansas done? The combined record for Arkansas's opponents are 46-108..where AU's opponent record is 99-64.. You have a 12-1 record with an RPI of 58.. your SOS is 227.. so when Arkansas plays someone and beats someone.. ill put them ahead of Auburn

No kidding.. I did not see the sweep of Fullerton coming.. LSU def the class of the West so far.. as far as Arky, we will settle this little dispute this coming weekend on the Plains.. I think both teams are pretty even and I could see the series going either way.. Good Luck!
