Beavs took care of business. They just need to continue to develop that young pitching. Hopefully they will surprise some people this year. Especially considering no one is giving them the time or day, that is when they have flourished in the past.

Under the radar is right where the Beavs like it.

The team is young, I think you will see lots of growing pains in pitching as we get in to Pac-10 play. Hopefully I am pleasantly surprised.

As a Beaver fan i like them, Pat Casey plays a small ball game, works perfect for the Beavs.

It amazes me how long they have been around, and how bad that site/writers are. Kendall has turned this into 10x what that place is.

The Poll also looks like they put the names on a dart board and played a game of darts.

I really like UCLA moving up a spot after being idle

OSU losing 3 spots after a road series win.

What was the weekend's biggest surprise?

The Beavers getting crushed Friday night 18-0 and then coming back and dominating the last 2 games to take the series win over Zona.

Beaver bats were on fire Saturday and Sunday against a very good pitching staff. I see a lot of the "heart" I saw in those back-to-back champ teams, which was missing for a couple years with the talented group of pre madonas that came in after 2007.

I never really buy the "they are young" excuse. It is rare to get a Senior on a good D1 program, if you want to win you have to get production from the young guys. Sometimes you may get lucky with a Junior heavy team, but to be good year in and year out you need freshman production.

Who REALLY cares what your ranking is this early in the year? If Rice is really that good, the will be there at the end of the year. As an Oregon State fan I embrace the low rankings, and I think the team does too. Poster board material.

From my understanding he wont be able to catch 100+ pitches a game just because of how much it will hurt. So yes, I see him DHing mostly, maybe catching for parts of game to give Parker some rest.

From everything i have read on this injury once the swelling goes down, he wont be able to damage it anymore and just becomes uncomfortable because it isn't his power arm. But as a catcher, he is constantly catching 85+ mph balls (mid 90s if Josh is throwing) with that hand, which could cause swelling and additional discomfort. If he only has to grip the bat 4 or 5 times a game it will be much more manageable compared to catching 100+ pitches and gripping the bat.

Probably for the best, both maybe could have played in a couple weeks, but with pain. 4-6 week recovery from surgery(The usual length for this surgery) and they will be 100%. Rather have that then 50-75% in 2 or 3 weeks.

CBN Poll is all over the place. It is the only poll I have seen on a weekly basis where a team wins their series, and manages to drop in the rankings.

National Collegiate Baseball Writer's poll (which is also the poll used to post D1 Baseballs scores). It seems too indisciminate and I cannot, for the life of me, figure out what their standings are based on. They use 40 writers and other "media related" voters, which I guess could be the cameraman taping the game. It, as far as I can tell, uses the "who is my favorite or least favorite team" standard for the voters to use.

I like the Baseball America poll, and Perfect Game's poll, although Kendall seems to use the "team I like" factor in making some of his rankings. However, in his defense, once that team commences to really blow, he does drop them pretty swiftly

Right on queue they have the Beavs at #15 this week.

Kendall - Bat Rule change

Daweez04
Daweez04
Kendall, do you think the new bats have anything to do with a team like Oregon State's success? They have always been a "small ball" type of team, not depending too much on power, and value solid pitching. While teams like ASU have thrived because of the big bats they recruit. Seems to me if you have better pitching and are built for small ball you now have an advantage.

I would say Nygren, Shultz and Wetzler are all about even, but Wetzler and Shultz have much more upside only being Frosh. All 3 have looked great one game, then looked pedestrian next, consistency is def needed. This team doesn't have a concrete 3rd starter, I hope one of the decides to step up come playoffs.

I was very impressed how Nygren rebounded from walking 2 batters in the 6th, then striking out 5 of 6 in the 7th and 8th innings.

...football......basketball......basketball......football......basketball......football......basketball......football......football......basketball......football...I didn't see one reference to baseball in this story.

Football and Basketball are the sports that pay the bills and the reason we got this deal. Naturally the story is going to be about them.

But there has been mention of expanded coverage of "olympic sports" which is what Baseball falls under.
